Regular Polish use...

Hey guys I have a question,

I have been reading this site ALOT trying to learn as much as I can, but I have a question about regular polishing. If you use a Carnauba wax after compound and polish, you obviously have to re-apply another wax coat every couple months. So my question, is it ok to use a more mild polish like SFX-3 after washing and before waxing every few months? I know you dont want to polish too much, but if you wanted to still bring out that shine would that be alright? Any help is appreciated.:xyxthumbs

It's risky to generalize because it seems like everybody has different circumstances and, well, [stuff] happens. But yeah, IMO it's OK to use very mild polishes from time to time. I dunno from the SFX3, but there are products that *IMO* you could use as often as you like with no problems, and maybe the SFX3 is one of them.

But FWIW I usually just clean the paint with Sonus green clay and then redo the LSP. I get by for a *LONG* time that way, seldom needing to use a paint cleaner (let alone a more aggressive product i.e., a "polish"). Depending on your choice of LSP, you can even use what I term a "fancy cleaner-wax" such as VM, AIO, 1Z WPS, etc. or even an actual, regular, cleaner-wax (which IMO aren't all bad).

Well I think when you get starting out detailing you really want to jump into it and polish every chance you get. At least thats the way it was with me! I always wanted to be out there doing something to my car. With proper washing techniques I have been able to keep my car basically marr/swirl free but obviously there are always going to be some defects. If I feel like doing something other than just refreshing my LSP I use either Prime or Prime Strong. Here is a part of an email conversation I had with Jeff:

"On a vehicle that has already had major imperfections corrected, Prime: Strong can help maintain a clear, mar-free surface. While it could be used every week, our idea of "regular use" was more like every 2-4 months, at every detailing session, if needed. We always recommend that the least aggressive path be taken first, and that the condition of the paint should always dictate the product choices"

Hope this helps a little!

use waxes and sealants that cover up as well as protect....do it every couple of months, and compounding twice a year doesn't seem to unreasonable to me, especially by PC
