refinishing R90 2 piece wheels

Wondering if anyone here has attempted to refinish the wheels on the Mini Cooper 2 piece R90 wheels.  I am interested in someone's experience with the lips of the wheels as the rest of the wheel is just fine. This defect is beneath the clear coat and not on top.

Having never been satisfied with my DIY efforts, I'd just get them professionally refinished....but it's easy for me to spend your money.
 
Looks like galvanic corrosion. You'd have to break that wheel down, strip the finish bare on the ring, polish it and then coat it. Big project. I would have a wheel reconditioning shop do it instead. Probably about $125-$150 per wheel. 
 
IMO disassembling/reassembling multi-piece wheels isn't something most people oughta DIY even though it seems soooo straightforward (at least in concept).
