Reducing ice buildup on windscreens?

For the first time this winter I was caught a few days ago without any deicer and a frozen windscreen. It took some time to clear the glass, so my question is, is there any product that can reduce the amount of frozen ice on my glass (Rain-X?)

The car is outside 24/7 and in this part of the world (Cumbria, UK) we get a lot of ice (not much snow), and I hate letting the engine warm up by idleing for 20 mins just to get enough heat (no aircon)

I don't know if its available in the UK, but Rain-X sells a de-Icer winshild washer fluid, that is half-way decent, you may want to give that a try.

What I like to do is put one of those covers on the outside of the windscreen. These are usually made for snow, but it also helps prevent ice from building up. (Although you do get light frost developing)

In addition to the cover, I like to fill a small spray bottle with a mix of winter deicer washer fluid, and deicer concentrated additive. This melts the frost in no time. All you do is spray it on. Get in your car, start it and then run your wipers.

The Winter Deicer Washer Fluid I purchased was from the USA in WalMart. Prestone makes it and its Orange in colour. It is good up to -25 degrees farenheit.

Then the concentrate deicer fluid you can get anywhere.
