Red Wine

Whats the best method to get red wine stains out?

Chris, I've used the dab method as a pre-treatment, starting with cold water. Someone will do better here than that I'm sure.

The color red is the hardest thing to get up, you'll need to use the clothes iron trick. Do a search on it.

Never came accross it yet, but I did have something similiar.

I had an emergency cleanup on a 3 day old cranberry juice explosion once. It took 2 gallons of hot oxy with about 6 treatments to remove it.

Vacuum
Hot oxy, let dwell
Agitate
Extract

I did that x6. It might be worth a shot.

I know its a few months since this thread was last posted, but I have a few experiences with red wine stains.

1st, i used to work at a winery, and we sold a product called "wine away"
which is a miracle product. This stuff works so well, I have saved several shirts
by using this.

Another thing that worked for me was Oxy-clean. Mix a little in a spray bottle with luke warm water, spray and wipe. repeat till finished.

good luck

There is a product called "Red Out" that supposedly takes care of the difficult red stains. I have never used it so I can't comment on its capabilities.

Here's a link to a wine site suggesting some ways to remove red wine stains.

Mix Dawn liquid dish soap and hydrogen peroxide.....stain gone!
A few questions.
1. What ratio? Like how much Dawn, how much water and how much hydogen peroxide?
2. Hydrogen peroxide is bleach, isn't it? Any problems with bleaching out the color from what you use it on?

Charles,

Here's some more info Strat's Place - How to Remove Wine Stains.

I learned the trick when I used to sell wine for a wholesale distributor. I mixed 60% peroxide to 40% Dawn. Never bleached anything out, you rinse/dab it with water once done. I never spilled white wine on my white shirt.......
According to the article above it doesn't have to be Dawn but that's all I ever used.
