Red On Cloth After Scratch-X?

I have a new Red Acura TSX and had a small, very minor scratch on the door near the handle.



I used Scratch-X, by hand, rubbing fairly light, for a fairly short time, and was very surprised to see the polishing cloth pick up some red tint.



I tested a small spot on the hood and got the same results, red on the cloth.



What would cause this. I expected to see no color, as the car is clearcoated, or so I thought?????
 
Try another cleaner type product, like a cleaner wax or AIO, on a different area of the car. If you were just working the scratch area, the clear *may* be compromised in that small area.



Quite unlikely that it is a single stage paint.

Then again, Lexus uses a single stage black...

~One man’s opinion / observations~



Clear coat usually has a ‘thinness’ of 2-3Mils I wouldn’t think that ScratchX is abrasive enough with ‘hand’ application to go through to the colour coat, maybe it’s a single stage paint as edschwab1 says.

It was brand new from a reputable Acura dealership. I saw it with the shipping protectants on it days before I picked it up, so I am pretty sure it wasn't repainted.



I can't imagine that I could possibly gone thru the clearcoat with that little work. If that were the case, I would be washing it off in less than a year.



I am leaning tword tinted clear or 1 step?

If you provide colour to the clear coat where would you get brilliance from?

I don't what the reason for tinted clearcoats is, but I also have heard of them.



Maybe to give a different visual impact?
 
A lot of red (especially bright ones) have no clear coats even with new cars... Almost all the bright red cars that we've worked with in our shop has no clear... F150's, Z3, Civics, among others... They all have single stage paints.
