Recs for Makita 9227 pads

Can people help out with which pads are good and which are not? I picked up a 9227 (CX) and it comes with a 6.5" "velcro" backing plate, a foam waffle pad and a lambswool pad.

My plan is to use the machine only for swirl/scratch removal and polishing. The machine looks very nice and the speed control looks like a great feature for lo-speed operation.

Any helpful hints will be much appreciated.

Thx.

Makita 9227 run for the first time. Wow, what have I been waiting for? What a machine!!...news (and pix) at 11 !!

OK, this is just a quikee job I did in about 2 hours yesterday afternoon so I could demo the new Makita. The paint looks very nice and the surface is perfect yet, as with so many other new cars I have seen, this very dk blue paint still looks and feels lifeless. Oh, well. :nixweiss

This was a quik job!

Step 1 was 3M SMR for dark cars.

Step 2 was Glanz Wax.

I am pleased with the results but very excited about the Makita. I have another hi speed rotary polisher, it's an old WEN that runs excessively fast and spatters stuff everywhere creating a huge clean up job afterwards. I probably use it 1X per year when someone presents me a car with damage. It has 2 speeds: Very fast and ridiculously fast. If you're not paying attention, it's a great way to damage paint and always requires much post-clean up.

Then Makita created a proper polisher. :xyxthumbs What a great machine! Don't know if I will use the PC much after using this Makita. To start with, it's really quiet. The auto speed control is a very cool feature especially when running at low RPM. There is absolutely no spatter or throw which means getting the job done that much sooner. I like! It's heavy but is very smooth in operation. Normally, I recommend people stay away from the rotary polishers and stick with something like a PC. This Makita may change my sentiments on that topic.

I ordered a couple of 7.5" white pads and a yellow pad for it yesterday. This Makita is promo setup (Makita 9227CX) and comes with a nice carrying satchel and two pads, a lambs wool pad and a coarse foam "waffle" pad. I doubt I will use these.

Lake Country Manufacturing has great pads.

wow, you call that lifeless?

Al, don't get me wrong. The surface is perfect...I don't know what it is with the BMW paint. It looks great but I really feel it should have greater depth or more "WOW" than it does based upon the effort I put forth.

I have tried numerous other products on it and the result is always a bit of a disappointment. :nixweiss

You can get the same pads cheaper from topoftheline.com instead of CMA. :up

What model is the 9227CX? Makita's website has the 9227C.

Also, is the handle on the side like the PC or on top?

Check out this link from Makita and scroll to "Polishers"
