im looking for some good quality headphones that are LOUD. I just purchased some from bestbuy but theyre KOSS and they kinda suck so im taking em back. Im looking for the big ones that go over your ear that are probably not any more than 75 bucks.

Anyone?

There have been some lengthy headphone discussions in this very forum from time to time, and there are quite a few headphonephiles here on Autopia. You may want to try searching back a year or two. In the mean time, here's a site that a lot of headphonephiles buy from:

yeah but for 140 they should at least be wireless right? I saw they had some of those at bestbuy but they were around 199

In headphones, you get what you pay for. If you have $30 hearing....buy a $30 set of 'phones.

The Headroom site that Dave N quoted is a good place to start. They know audio....headphones and high-end. Their headphone amp packages are some of the best to be had.

Stay away from Crutchfields, they have become the mailorder version of Circuit City. They sell a little bit of everything and typically know a little bit of nothing about it. No high-end to be found there....just lots of mid-fi trash.

You won't find a truly good sounding wireless pair of headphones. Put up with the cable if you want the best sound.

If you are looking for muff-type 'phones, I'd suggest certain models of Sennheiser. If you lean to the earbud style (my own preference as they're lighter, more accurate, and seal out all extraneous ambient noise) ...then Etymotic Research is difficult to beat. Careful matching required, though, if you're buying for un-aided use with an iPod or similar.

I also recommend Grado headphones. I also make live to 2 track recordings and we use Grado and Stax headphones exclusively but Stax are very expensive.

What the? You want headphones that are...loud? What does that mean? You can damage your ears more eaily than you think. Half of guys in their mid-20's can't hear a 10K test tone. Think about that.

When you are listening to anything with phones, make a clap in front of your face. If you can't hear it over the music, you are damaging your ears.

Quality headphones? Go with anything made by Sennheiser or Grado.

I'm with Boxster Charlie in recommending Sennheiser or Grado. I personally have a pair of Sennheisers connected to my computer and they sound nice.

What about the noise cancelling headphones. Does anyone have any recommendations? I was thinking of getting a pair for work.

I have Sony MDR-7506's that are a few years old. I had gone to The Guitar Center to listen to some Sennheiser's or Grado's, but another customer there recommended the Sony's - said he used them in his recording studio. They're sealed headphones so they really get rid of outside noise; you'll have to decide which style you want. I liked them when I had noisy roommates ;)

They sound great. I connect them to the headphone jack of my computer speakers when I play video games. First time I used them I was amazed at some of the sounds I had been missing by using the speakers.. little environmental sounds. Too cool.

Definitely find a place to listen to the headphones before you buy them.

I argree with a couple of people here.

I own a pair of Koss PortaPros and Sennehiser PX100's.

They are both very good and are in the same price range ($40-$50). They both provide very good sound with the PortaPros more bassy, and the PX100s a little more warm sounding. Visit some of those reccommended sites above and you'll read a lot more.

BTW, my friend has the Grado SR-60, and they are the best sounding but too big for my taste. I was looking for a liitle something more portable and thats what the Koss and Sennheisers give me.

Hope this helps!!
