So this is a question for those of you who have the Porter Cable 7424/7336 polisher. I received mine today and I am curious about a couple things that maybe someone can confirm:

Are the following things normal with a BRAND NEW polisher:

1. The black cap above the metal piece that holds the backing plate on (where the handle screws in) wobbles just A LITTLE bit when the handle is not screwed on. Again it stops moving entirely when the handle is screwed in but I just wanna make sure nothing is messed up.

2. Also, at the bottom end of the polisher where the cord comes out there are a few very light surface scuffs so I am not sure if that is normal in production or not. I know eventually it will get some, but the item is supposed to be brand new so I didn't know if that is normal for it to have a few scuffs on the bottom casing. They are very light

Thanks for all the help!!!

It was new and not refurbished right?

I can't say I ever noticed the black part of mine being loose at all.

They said it was new, everything else looks new except for the VERY SLIGHT wobble in the top black piece when the handle isn't attached.

yep that is normal for it to vibrate, I don't use the handle so

I installed a rubber washer, a flat washer and a hex head machine screw on each side

because it drove me nuts after several hours!

I don't know about the scuff, but I never use the handle and the black plastic cap has always been a little wobbly from the 1st day I got it. I wouldn't worry too much either about the scuff at the bottom.

When I was searching for my PC, I went to the 2 Lowes closest to me and they were out. I finally went home and called the next nearest Lowes that was 20 miles away to see if they had it in stock. The guy said yes right away without even thinking about it. I asked him again to verify that we were talking about the same thing. He said again yes and that he was holding the box as we spoke. I thought that was a little strange but I was too excited about my good luck to answer any other questions.

I jumped in my car and raced over there. When I got there the guy hands me the box. I open it up and it's all scuffed and damaged. I figured if it worked, I would ask for an extra discount. So I plugged it in right in the store and, sure enough, it didn't work!

Looks like somebody used it for sanding, broke it, and then just returned it. The employee who accepted it, didn't even bother to look at it and it got put back on the shelf. Good thing I opened the box. Luckily, the tool guy called another store and they had a brand new one so I zipped over there and bought it as fast as I could (after checking first!)

The black cover vibrates if I don't hold it with my hand.
