Real Newbie with a PC/SMR questions..

Hi all,

I am a real Newbie, I did searches about PC's and still have questions..

I have a 1990 corvette that has some hazing problems, I tried SMR by hand, and the hazing that was there is gone, but I have light scratches from the SMR...

So I am thinking I should buy a PC, and see if that helps..

I am not sure what to get, is there a weight or something different between the 7336 and the 7424?

Also when everyone mentions buying the CMA kit, which one are they refering to?

Also who has better service? CMA or Coastal tool?

I guess I was hoping someone with experiance would tell me

buy this PC from this vendor.. and this Kit... :)

I want to do a SMR job, and not sure which kit is right..

THanks in advance for the help..

Hello Bill, and welcome. :)

I don't have a lot of experience, but there are some things I can tell you. You should not be getting additional scratches from the SMR. What did you use to apply it with? It's also possible that your applicator or surface was dirty and it may have been rubbed in.

You want the 7336 because it has the heavier counterweight, but if you get the Coastal Tool package you get both anyway. You get whichever CMA kit you need depending if you need a backing pad or not. CMA sells the PC too, but it costs more so people usually only buy pad kits from them.

The kit will have everything you could need for a variety of jobs, but the polishing pads should be the ones to use with SMR. You could just buy the pads you need now, but...

If you haven't stumbled across it yet, the thread in my signature has lots of information in it that I've amassed. (Best taken in small doses though ;))

Somebody here wrote an excellent post about PCs and which pads do what. There was also info on the different model numbers and counter weights. I tried to find the thread, but no luck. Maybe someone else can remember the title better and find it.

edit: that's the thread I was talking about in 4DSC's signature. :xyxthumbs

You'll always enjoy the service of a store that offers detailing supplies when you are looking for detailing supplies. CMA is a good choice. Coastal Tool obviously sells a lot more than just polishers. They wouldn't be much help if you asked them how to use it best. CMA would be able to recommend products and procedures. Always go to the right store if you are looking for advice. If you just want the best deal on the tool and can get your advice on how to use it elsewhere, then look for the best deal. That may or may not be a detailing store.
