re-attaching velcro onto pads

I have a very expensive problem...

While I am using the PC, and the pads, after many uses the velcro on the pads unattaches from the pad its self. What I am left with is a circular velcro sheet, and a foam pad.

I have tired to use super glue, and 3m super 77 adhesive to get the velcro to stick, but it won't.

How can i re-attach the velcro?

I have found this to be a problem with all my Meg pads. I was able to extend their use by using marine goop to reattach the velcro.

Have a new order for cma's vc pads coming in next week, sure hope the velcro holds better on these.

What are the odds.....:nixweiss

Last week while using CMA's Yellow pad, the white velcro backing came off as well.. being that i'm short on cash i decided to try to reattach it with success... Used some very high tech super glue bought at the Miami Boat Show, and it's worked great.. hasn't come off yet.. *knock on wood*

I'm starting to wonder about this too. The backing on some cheapie pads I have the velcro starting to come off too. I was thinking that the glue would have to be something that is a)very strong b)but still flexible and c)maybe doesn't dissolve plastic? :nixweiss Isn't the foam polyurethane or plastic or something?

forget about it. The glue, which i am assuming you will use, might seep through to the contact surface of the pad. Buy new ones!

I realize this is a very old thread, but if anyone knows what type of glue to use I'd like to know because my Lake Country velcro just came off the pad. Pad is in great shape otherwise :/

Usually, the problem is petroleum distillates in the products and heat. I have two pads per product now and swap them out halfway through so they can cool. I'll see if this helps extend the life of the pads.

How about some kind of resin or epoxy based glue? :nixweiss (I probably have no clue what I just said! LOL - Flame away!)

I think we need something thick so it won't soak in too much, but without a solvent that melts the foam.

I emailed Lake Country about the pad I was using. They said they make pads especially designed for DAs. The glue and glueing method are different than for their other foam pads. The glue for the DA pads is made specifically to stand up to the heat and rigors of a DA such as the PC.

Unfortunately, I didn't read the blurb carefully enough when I ordered the pads. I bought a 6" kit (3 pads and backing plate) because all 3 pads were variable contact whereas the 6.5" kit (3 pads and backing plate) had a flat white pad. Now that my pad fell apart I went back to the site and noticed that the blurbs for the 6.5" kit says the pads are for DAs. Doh. My newbishness shone through on this one!

Not really. :) I have yet to read about someone buying the "DA" pads because they say they are FOR dual-action polishers. Honestly, I don't think anyone here worries about that, and just uses whatever pad they think suits their needs. That pad selection is quite limited and you don't see many places selling any of those.... :nixweiss

I have had success gluing pads using Shoe Goo. It is found in Walmart in the shoe section. Maybe other places have it too. There are other glues that some have used that work too. I think one is called 3M emblem adhesive.
