Raising money for Cancer research

I recently accepted the challenge to raise funds to support the Komen Salt Lake City Race for the Cure on May 9, 2009 in the fight against breast cancer.

I am running this event this year for my mom and all the others who have had cancer touch their lives.

One in eight women will be stricken with breast cancer in her lifetime and the more we raise, the more the Salt Lake City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure can give back to fund vital breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs in our own community and support the national search for a cure.

Please join me in the fight by pledging in support of my participation in the Race or contributing generously to Komen Salt Lake City. Your tax-deductible contribution will fund innovative outreach and awareness programs for medically underserved communities in Salt Lake and national breast cancer research. It is faster and easier than ever to support this great cause - you can make a donation online by simply clicking on the link at the bottom of this message. If you would prefer, you can also send your tax-deductible contribution to the address listed below. Whatever you can give will help! I truly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.

Thank you so much for your time and support in the fight against breast cancer! Every step counts!

Wow!

I'd be hard pressed to run a marathon at all so that is impressive being a cancer survivor or not!

I get tired driving 26 miles!

Being a guy that wants to help women with their breasts, I made a donation. :D Good luck with your run!

For cancer prevention I try to get the word out about the importance of keeping circulating vitamin D3 levels at optimal levels year round. Researchers are now finding that a deficiency of the sunshine vitamin, D3, has been linked to many forms of cancer - breast cancer included. Some scientists believe up to a 75% reduction in cancers could be acheived if people kept their D levels at summer time levels.

A good sight to read about D3's importance to our health is the non-profit organization: http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/

Optimal D3 levels are between 60 to 70ng/ml. Your doctor can test for this, or now available are home testing kits available at and elsewhere:

Thanks for the support!

I have a friend who owns a local spa and he just got a far infrared sauna. This is something that is really great for people with or without cancer, but especially with as it helps pull all of the potential cancer causing toxins out of the body even more so than just sweating them out in a traditional sauna. Google it for more info, but I was pretty impressed. I'm going to go try it out and my mom certainly will as well.

Thanks for the tip on the D3! I will certainly pass it on.

Only 5 days until I run and I am currently second overall in fundraising out of over 12000 entrants! I'm shooting for first because it's a wonderful charity. If you can support and are willing, please do so.

And thank you to all who have!:cornut:

Hey everyone!! First of all, I want to thank all of you who have donated so far! You have helped me raise almost $6000!! That's fantastic and I'm blessed to have contacted such wonderful and giving people who are willing to support such a great cause!!

And a little update on my mom. She went to the Doctor for a check up after her surgery and while she was there she got wonderful news. The margins in the tissue that they removed are clean! This is a great sign that they have hopefully removed all the cancerous cells! Fantastic news! I am confident that this is in part due to all of you sending your positive thoughts and energy to my mom, so thank you all!! And thank you all for your notes, kind words, and support that you have shown not only my mom, but me and my family as well. It means a lot even to hear from some of you as it has been too long! You guys and gals are all awesome!

On the fundraising/race front, tomorrow is the race! Only ONE more day to donate to team Silvester before the race! Please do so if you are able! No amount is too small (or big for that matter!)

Thanks!

Outstanding!
That's one heck of a Mother's Day gift for her, don't you think?

All the very best,

Admin and the staff.

WHEW! What a LONG and really amazing day today. The run this morning was awesome! There were almost 18000 people there!

I don't know if it's tabulated everything, but I ended up raising just shy of $6500 individually!! This was awesome to me not only because of the amazing cause, but also because I was the top overall individual fundraiser for the event and there was only one team who raised more. We've already got plans in the works for next year with a team of great friends out here. We just have to figure out how we want to market ourselves as a team. There were some great ones out there today. Some friends of mine were on the Bookin' for Boobies team. I saw a guy with a t-shirt that said "The Breast Whisperer" One team had "I Love Chesticles" on their shirts. And there were MANY others. It was a GREAT time. The event reached and surpassed their goal of over $250,000! This is great to see things like this getting good response in a down economy.

I want to give a personal thank you to all who supported and donated! It was a wonderful experience and I am glad that I was able to share it with all of you!
