rag top cleaning?

Rode & Schwalenbert Gmbn. (Germany) the worlds leading manufacturer of automobile convertible tops exclusively recommends Harrtz RaggTop Cleaners and Protectant. Developed specifically for cleaning, re-proofing and preserving convertible tops, these cleaning kits consist of two products

Cleaner to remove soiling, stains and atmospheric pollution for both natural and synthetic materials, the better cleaners are formulated from low-pH (low alkalinity) and are gentle enough for repeated use over time, they rely on proteins and enzymes (not harsh chemicals) for their safe, but effective, cleaning power.

Fabric protector to re-proof and preserve fabric tops from the effects of water absorption, surface soiling and staining, and provide a sunscreen from UV radiation and subsequent fading. The fabric protector recommended by Glen Raven Mills (Sunbrella) and the Haartz Corporation is 303â„¢ High Tech Fabric Guard restores lost water repellence and stain repellence to factory new levels. It stops leaks, resists soiling, impedes mildew formation and helps protect against the sun's harmful UV rays.

You should always clean the area before applying a protectant. So yes you do need a cleaner. The protectant is what keeps it from fading, so obviously you need to use that.

On a brand new car do I really need to do any of these? I just want to protect it from fading.

Then let me ask a question-

If you don't want to use a fabric protector how else will you stop it from fading?

Rant[ Sometimes it makes me wonder why people ask for advice and then when it's given to them they if its necessary] OK Rant over :)

Sorry :o :o On the other hand do you think using the cleaner/protector twice a year on a car that is driven about 1500 miles a year is good? Also in my other post you talk about using the cleaner on the suede before using the protector? how often should this process be repeated (once again 1500 mile a year car) Also if the suede isn't dirty right now should I do the cleaner anyways? THanks.
