COME AT ME BRO
Well, I was bit by the bug again this week. Hearing all the talk about NXT 2.0 got me itching to try it. I popped in the local Wally World, and luckily they had the gift bundle with the 2.0 in it. Here goes...
Availability: Available at my local Wal-Mart. They had quite a few. An end cap full to be exact.
Packaging: This was packaged in the gift bundle. I don't know that you can get it outside of this bundle right now. In my opinion, Meg's made a pretty good gift bundle out of this one. Almost everything you need to do a "down and dirty detail" was included - except detergent. Had they included wash detergent, this would have made an excellent starter package for those just getting into the hobby. Quickly, the bundle included NXT 2.0, ScratchX, Interior Detailer, Tire Gel, Wheel cleaner, and the new Quick Detailer. Also one of those famous Meg's yellow foam applicators.
The NXT 2.0 was packaged in the familiar purple packaging, with distinct bottle design. Personally, I like it. It's catchy and stands out on the shelf. Standard labeling with directions.
Price: The gift bundle was $24.88. Pretty good price considering what's in the bundle. I know the NXT is about $15, the Quick Detailer is around $10. So I feel that I got my money's worth. I can use the wheel cleaner and ScratchX is great in some cases. I don't care much for the tire gel, but that's just me. I don't know what the price of NXT 2.0 will be when it's available on its own. For all I know it could already be available on it's own - I don't know. Mooovin' on....
Directions: The directions state to apply to a cool, dry vehicle. Apply to the entire vehicle and then buff off. There's the standard verbiage of claying and polishing if you feel the need to.
Product: It's very similar to NXT 1.0. Look, smell, consistency, etc. It's very easy to apply and remove. I applied by hand and was able to get a thin coat on. I let it sit for an hour or so, came back out to the ole garage and buffed off. It came off very easily.
Results: I only have initial results. So I can't even begin to describe beading or durability. Those are two unimportant aspects to me anyway, but for those of you who like that, I don't have an opinion. Before I begin, all I have seen it under is bright flourescent lighting. It's dark, so I can't see it in the sun and it's supposed to be raining tomorrow. Go figure. Guess I'll see about that hydrophobic super duper beading... Initially, I was impressed by the look. Others have said that it darkens the paint, but I can't really see that. What struck me about it was that there was a noticeable "glossiness". Prior to the NXT, the 4Runner was sporting some UPP (old) with DG Aquawax applied after every wash. To be honest, the NXT 2.0 reminded me of all the pictures people post of Zaino when the car looks really glossy. Almost like it was dipped in some sort of clear lubricant.....
Slickness: I had heard a few poeple mention that NXT 2.0 was pretty slick. Meh, it's not the slickest. That honor still goes to UPP in my book. I would say NXT is somewhere around the middle of the pack of about 10 sealants and waxes I like to fool around with.
Cleaning and miscellaneous: I purposely wanted to do a "quickie" wash & wax on the 4Runner. It's relatively new and babied, although there's some light marring. There was also some tar specks I wanted to see if the NXT could handle. I think it did a fine job of cleaning, although I wouldn't rank it close in cleaning ability with ColorX. I can't really tell about the "filling" abilities that the old NXT was touted as having either.
Overall, I still think NXT is one of the best OTC sealants/waxes available. It's a great product for everyone from the average joe to those of us who are "critics."
I'll try and answer any questions, and if I can keep it in mind I'll post about what I think of the NXT 2.0 in the sunlight and the beading qualities. Sorry, no pics - I'm just not in the mood. I do plan on NOT topping this with another wax to see how well it does in the rain and maybe get an idea (under my standards) as to how long it lasts. I will be tempted to try the new Quick Detailer on it, but I am not sure if I will wait or not. Depends on the mood.
