Quickie Review: Meg's NXT 2.0

JaredPointer

COME AT ME BRO
Well, I was bit by the bug again this week. Hearing all the talk about NXT 2.0 got me itching to try it. I popped in the local Wally World, and luckily they had the gift bundle with the 2.0 in it. Here goes...

Availability:
Available at my local Wal-Mart. They had quite a few. An end cap full to be exact.

Packaging:
This was packaged in the gift bundle. I don't know that you can get it outside of this bundle right now. In my opinion, Meg's made a pretty good gift bundle out of this one. Almost everything you need to do a "down and dirty detail" was included - except detergent. Had they included wash detergent, this would have made an excellent starter package for those just getting into the hobby. Quickly, the bundle included NXT 2.0, ScratchX, Interior Detailer, Tire Gel, Wheel cleaner, and the new Quick Detailer. Also one of those famous Meg's yellow foam applicators.

The NXT 2.0 was packaged in the familiar purple packaging, with distinct bottle design. Personally, I like it. It's catchy and stands out on the shelf. Standard labeling with directions.

Price:
The gift bundle was $24.88. Pretty good price considering what's in the bundle. I know the NXT is about $15, the Quick Detailer is around $10. So I feel that I got my money's worth. I can use the wheel cleaner and ScratchX is great in some cases. I don't care much for the tire gel, but that's just me. I don't know what the price of NXT 2.0 will be when it's available on its own. For all I know it could already be available on it's own - I don't know. Mooovin' on....

Directions: The directions state to apply to a cool, dry vehicle. Apply to the entire vehicle and then buff off. There's the standard verbiage of claying and polishing if you feel the need to.

Product:
It's very similar to NXT 1.0. Look, smell, consistency, etc. It's very easy to apply and remove. I applied by hand and was able to get a thin coat on. I let it sit for an hour or so, came back out to the ole garage and buffed off. It came off very easily.

Results: I only have initial results. So I can't even begin to describe beading or durability. Those are two unimportant aspects to me anyway, but for those of you who like that, I don't have an opinion. Before I begin, all I have seen it under is bright flourescent lighting. It's dark, so I can't see it in the sun and it's supposed to be raining tomorrow. Go figure. Guess I'll see about that hydrophobic super duper beading... Initially, I was impressed by the look. Others have said that it darkens the paint, but I can't really see that. What struck me about it was that there was a noticeable "glossiness". Prior to the NXT, the 4Runner was sporting some UPP (old) with DG Aquawax applied after every wash. To be honest, the NXT 2.0 reminded me of all the pictures people post of Zaino when the car looks really glossy. Almost like it was dipped in some sort of clear lubricant.....

Slickness: I had heard a few poeple mention that NXT 2.0 was pretty slick. Meh, it's not the slickest. That honor still goes to UPP in my book. I would say NXT is somewhere around the middle of the pack of about 10 sealants and waxes I like to fool around with.

Cleaning and miscellaneous: I purposely wanted to do a "quickie" wash & wax on the 4Runner. It's relatively new and babied, although there's some light marring. There was also some tar specks I wanted to see if the NXT could handle. I think it did a fine job of cleaning, although I wouldn't rank it close in cleaning ability with ColorX. I can't really tell about the "filling" abilities that the old NXT was touted as having either.

Overall, I still think NXT is one of the best OTC sealants/waxes available. It's a great product for everyone from the average joe to those of us who are "critics."

I'll try and answer any questions, and if I can keep it in mind I'll post about what I think of the NXT 2.0 in the sunlight and the beading qualities. Sorry, no pics - I'm just not in the mood. I do plan on NOT topping this with another wax to see how well it does in the rain and maybe get an idea (under my standards) as to how long it lasts. I will be tempted to try the new Quick Detailer on it, but I am not sure if I will wait or not. Depends on the mood.

Excellent write up...

On the cleaning ability of the tar specs, you mentioned it did fairly well, was there much effort needed to remove the tar, or was it pretty easy to take off...

Thanks for the review Jared, now I need to get my hands on the 2.0....I may have to wait a few months before the local Meg distributor stock em :wall

It was pretty easy off. There was some protection on the vehicle, albeit it was probably in need of a fresh spray of the AW. I would say I had to hit the spot two or three times with the yellow foam app & NXT to remove them.

I wan't going to consider the New NXT for a lot of reasons but you guys keep bringing it up. I am definitely interested if it has the glossy look of Zaino, Jared. Ease of use is very important to me as well.

Was NXT in paste or liquid? I am develping a phobia for paste waxes of late. I always seem to get to much applied. I may have missed it but did not see it in your review.

I am also interested in darkening my black paint. hmmmm Can Black paint be darkened?

Very nice review. It's been 4 days since my coats were put on. It rained here yesterday, and I was amazed on how fast my truck was dried from a 5 minute, 40MPH drive. It looked like I had just washed it too. I'm going to give it a wash today since I had to travel down a dirt road yesterday. Maybe some beading shots. I'm not big on beading. I think beads create water spots. I love sheeting instead.

Again, nice post here Jared.

Kirk, it's liquid. The white creamy stuff...... :)

And I don't know if it's really fair to compare the look with Zaino, as I have only seen the glossy photo posts of Zaino. Lots of doctoring can be done with photos. But it did have a really glossy look that reminded me of the photos I have seen. I'll send you a PM in a second.

Saw it in the early morning light today and I must say it looked nice. Still would like to see it in full sunlight, but that might be a day or so. I did notice that it was slicker this morning than last night. I thought it might have been my imagination, but I am pretty sure it got slicker. Of course, there's no real way to test that.

Second look: Tonight I took the 4Runner out. It was lightly raining. The beading was pretty good after the vehicle sat in the restaurant parking lot. During the 10 minute drive home all the water came off the car. It looks like it has just been washed (with the exception of the glass and wheel wells). I've had this with other sealants as well, but the NXT stayed pretty slick. It still looks good, though.

Overall, I like the NXT 2.0 so far. I am tempted to use the Quick Detailer..... :)

Does the 4Runner have much textured plastic trim?
Did you have the same nonstaining results as Justin?

A) None, except at the windows between the front and rear door, on the front jamb. There's no other textured plastic on the car. All the trim is painted.

B) I did try to not get any NXT on the window trim/rubber. I don't really have an answer for the staining question.

Well, it's been a few days since I applied the NXT 2.0 to the 4Runner. It has seen a bucket wash and a couple of wipedowns with S&W. I don't think it has lost any of it's shine and has retained about 90% (guesstimate) slickness. I know I said I was going to be tempted to try out the new Quick Detailer over it, ad I finally succumbed just now.

A few thoughts on the Quick Detailer: It is a very nice compliment to the NXT 2.0. I think it really added some pop to the look after the S&W wipedown. It's slick, and it doesn't give me the same streaking I got with the original (burgundy bottle) QD. It smells great (obligatory). It's relatively cheap when compared against QD's purchased online, and it's available locally. I think Meg's has another winner with this product, especially when used in conjunction with NXT 2.0.

For your evaluation, here's a couple of pics of the 4Runner in the garage. This is right after a S&W wipedown followed with a Meg's QD wipedown. The first pic has both the Tacoma and 4Runner in it to sort of show side-by side the Zanioe'd Tacoma and the 2.0ed 4Runner. This is one coat of NXT 2.0 on the 4Runner and two coats of Z2 Pro on the Tacoma. In my eyes, the NXT 2.0 is looking just as good as the Zaino, and it's not as fresh. Both look outstanding to me personally.

And yes, you'll have to overlook the wheel wells. It's been raining and I have not had the opportunity to get out and rinse them off, just for them to get dirty again in a couple of minutes. :)

One other note: comparing the silver to the white is like apples and oranges. The silver has some amazing depth to be a light color, while the white is just super bright.

Thanks for the update. Nxt 2.0 has recieved a lot of internet talk on the forums that I have been frequenting. Many compare the slickness and beading characteristics to Zaino. Some users a have gone so far as to say it is better. Hi praise as far as I am concerned. After the first of the year I know I will succumb to the urge and purchase some.

The Tacoma is looking good as is the 4Runner. I know my eye would not be able to discern the difference in the products although one of the lights shining on the right fender of the Tacoma looks like it is an advertisement for Zaino because the reflection of the light looks like a Z with a white line under it.

Blasphemy!
Boy are you gonna get it now. :D

A little birdie told me that you might have some 2.0 to do a test run with. :D

Thanks Charles, hopefully I won't get bashed too bad for that comment. I will stand by it, though. The 2.0 is a vast improvement in terms of looks and slickness than the original version to me. Maybe it's all the hype, or maybe I just want to believe that's so.... :)

Small update on the 2.0: It beads like crazy. I was driving the 4Runner yesterday, and it was raining all day. The beads are very tight and uniform, and there's hundreds, if not thousands of beads. Just thought that anyone "turned on" by beading might care to know. This is from one coat, with no prep work, after a couple of washes/S&W sessions. I have used the Quick Detailer on it twice. In my honest opinion, so far, NXT 2.0 is a very nice LSP.

Also, it dries very clean. No spotting that is discernable in normal lighting conditions.

I noticed this two on my truck this weekend. Four weeks since initial application and with two washes, it looks and feels, like fresh LSP! Cleaning is 10 easier too.

Very GOOD stuff!

Sounds like I'm going to have to try this new stuff.
I was really disappointed in the durability of the first NXT.
I have used the new UQD and I thought is was really good.

The only concern I have with the new UQD is that it only takes a very small amount it really spreads out and covers a large area.

While that would be great on a fresh washed car I'm a little concerned about using it after I have driven the car and want to remove the road dust.

Maybe smart to use S&W first.

I think on a clean car the Ultimate Detailer would be as good as anything available but I'm just not sure about on a car that has been driven.

I would be interested in opinions from others who have used it as to the use on a dusty vehicle.

I used it on a lightly dusty 4 Runner (driven for a day with no rain - had S&W'ed the previous day after rain). I did not notice any marring, and the towels did not get very dirty. It did a good job of removing the dust and adding shine.

FWIW, I compared the beading of NXT 2.0.UQD versus Zaino Z2Pro/Z8 side by side, and I have to say the beading from the NXT vehicle was tighter, smaller, and more prominent. {Wish I had taken pictures} Not that the Z vehicle wasn't beading, just that if I were to notice the two in a parking lot, the NXT was much more "beadier." Some folks use that to gauge in their perception of longevity or looks. Just thought I'd add that, as it seems that the Z and NXT 2.0 wound up being a side by side comparison as I was toying around with both vehicles.

I have read on Meguiars forum that the UQD will really cause beading.
I have used it on my show car but have not ever driven it in the rain with the UQD on it.

I glad to see Meguiars bring out these new products because they are easy to pick up and priced reasonable so we are the benefactors :yay
