Quickie Product Review: Menzerna Top Inspection

JaredPointer

COME AT ME BRO
I was one of the winners chosen for the AutoGeek Menzerna giveaway, and was lucky enough to have received a bottle of their new Top Inspection. I would like to thank the guys at AG for the opportunity and just let everyone know that they are really a good bunch of folks always allowing us to participate in giveaways and receive products to try.

It's been a while since I have reviewed anything new, so I may be a little rusty. Again, I did receive the product at no cost and this review is only my limited perception of the product. Fell free to ask me any specifics that I don't cover, and maybe I can explain a little better.

Availability:
Available through AG - Menzerna Top Inspection

Packaging:
Packaged in a black spray bottle. The bottle is a little different than most of the other spray items I have used. The bottle is wider, and the sprayer does not sit up quite so high. I like the way it fits in my hands.

Price:
Regular $24.99 USD for 16 ounces, although currently AutoGeek does have it on sale for $19.99 USD.

Directions: Well, there aren't really any instructions on the labeling. Most of the writing on the labeling is German, and since my German isn't that good, I probably couldn't read them anyway. There are some general directions at the AutoGeek website.

Product:
A "clearish" looking liquid. It doesn't have the aroma that some of the other products do. It almost has an alcohol scent to it. I'm not too terribly familiar with Menzerna products, but from what I gather they are more geared towards professionals and body shops which may explain the lack of "pleasing aroma."

Usage: I used the Top Inspection to "wipe down" a very light dusty 2007 4Runner. The 4Runner had been washed a couple of days prior, and since it hasn't rained here in about a month or two, all I had to deal with was light dust and a few bugs. Since there were no specific instructions, I proceeded to use this as I would any spray detailer. Spray on panel, "spread", and "buff" off.

Conclusion: As stated earlier, the packaging really fits into my hand well. So I had a good impression right from the start. One of the things I found when using Top Inspection was that after I sprayed it onto a panel, it almost had a thick-feeling consistency when I was spreading it. It was different. It does not apply and remove in the same manner as (for example) Spray and Wipe, but I attribute that to the fact that it really isn't the same product. Overall, I really liked the way it handled and also the way it left the finish looking. Very clean, with no residue or tackiness, and no hard to remove streaking. I think it's a good product as far as removing light dusting.

I would like to try the product during a polish session to remove residues, etc. like it is advertised on the AG website, but that will have to come at a later time.

As an aside, this was a positive experience for me with the relatively unexplored Menzerna line. I do hear a lot of good things about their products, and will probably give more of the line a try in the future due to the positive experience with this product.

Sounds good and a nice review. I am getting mine delivered today...and will post a similar review.

Thanks!

It sounds as if the product did the job for you. I had no doubt since my experience with Menzerna products has almost always seen very good results. My one lone less than stellar experience was with FMJ.

I did not read anywhere that you stated that it did the job better than...(you pick the product). Since there is a plethora of products out in the commercial world that already do this job is this a product that is completing the Menzerna line?

I have become a synergistic type product user. That is to say I like to use one company's product per vehicle. For me it is easier to get results that way rather than mixing and matching different companies chemical product and worrying about bonding issues.

It keeps running thru my mind ....hmmmm....is this enough for me to get to re-try the complete Menzerna lineup?

Well, it is hard to compare it to anything else I own because of the direct marketing towards use in body shops for cleaning off surfaces during polishing.

I will say, that as a QD or S&W, that S&W is my go to for cleaning and that Adam's* is my go to for a QD. I have not found anything better as of yet.

When polishing, I generally use a 50/50 mix of water and alcohol when I need to wipe a panel. It does the job, at least what I need it to do. However, not really having the opportunity to compare the Top Inspection at this job, I don't want to make unfair comparisons or speculation.

As far as completing the Menzerna line, I am not really familiar with it as a whole, so I can't really answer that question.

Update

I have been using this as I have been polishing my Tacoma. I know previously, I had only used it as a QD/dust remover. Using it now as a polish aid (to remove dusting and residue) I like it a little more. I am under the impression that it will remove some fillers, but I am not 100% sure on that. I used it and alcohol/water mix on the same panel after finish polishing a panel, and I really couldn't tell a difference. I've got a couple more panels to go (I am breaking this out over several nights to be as thorough as possible), so I will get to use it a few more times. I think it's a good product to do a wipedown after a polish to remove residue.

One thing - it is a little finicky if it's cool. I noticed some streaking and difficulty in removal when I first used it tonight, and it was a little cool in the garage until the halogens heated it up a bit.
