Hey guys I've been reading these forums for a few months now and I gotta say I have learned tons of info. But one thing I still dont get which is prob a no brainer to 99.9% of you guys. I know everyone says to use a 100% terry cloth towel, but when Im out and try to pick some up I usually just see one that are labled 100% cotton is this the same as terry cloth towels?? I know terry cloth is what bath robes are usually made out of lol. I also know about mf's, but the whole 100%cotton vs. terry cloth is somthing that kinda confuses me. Are they one in the same or not?

I probably sound really stupid haahah

Thanks in advance.

"Terry" is the style of the cloth. Take your average bath towel for instance. That is "terry cloth". Most MF towels are terry style unless mentioned otherwise. 100% cotton just means it's (supposedly) made out of only cotton, but buy quality towels that say Made in USA (or Canada? :D) on the tag to make sure they really are 100%.

Ohhhhhh ok I get it now. Here I am in K-mart in the damn Martha Stewart section touching all these different towels and checking thier tags lol. So terry, pima etc... are just thier styles i see now.

Wow im pretty clueless when it comes to those kinda things I cant help it i guess its my damn guy brain lol

Egyptian cotton is to cotton fabric as cashmere wool is to woolen fabric, ie the finest cotton you can get. That doesn't mean only buy Egyptian cotton towels, unless you want to. The main thing is, make sure the label says "100% Cotton, Made in the USA". Actually, for about the same money you can get waffleweave microfiber towels which I think are better than cotton towels.

Terrycloth is either woven or knitted and can be made of any yarn from cotton to polyester to rayon. The yarn size itself can be anything from heavier denier yarns to micro denier (microfiber.)

The main characteristic of Terrycloth is that the yarn stands up in loops on either both sides of the cloth (Turkish Terry) or on one side (French Terry or Velour.)

You don't need to concern yourself with wheather or not the cotton is Egyptian or Pima or Sea Island or whatever, it really doesn't matter except in fashion and men's dress shirts. Your car couldn't care less.

There are also many blends of terrycloth. BEWARE of labeling, many terry towels say 100% Cotton Face or 100% Cotton Loops, this means the loops are cotton but the base fabric is polyester or another man made fiber.

Cool guys thanks for clearing up somthing so simple.

Wow everyone here is really intellegent, I bet if we all sat around we could come up with the cure for cancer or solve world hunger lol. thanx again
