quick question before I place an order for pads

I have a 6' backing plate for my pc (purchased from properautocare) and I am wondering if it will fit the Sonus DAS pads or propel pads without being too close to the edge. If not, will any 5' backing plate do or does it have to be the one specifically advertised alongside them? Thanks for any input.

I don't know about the Propel pads, but I wouldn't use a 6" backingplate with the Sonus DAS pads. The velcro backing on the Sonus pad is *exactly* 6" and I would fear that the backing plate would start cutting into the foam during use.

I measured my 6" backing plate and it actually measures 5 3/4", which leaves very little room for error, but it will work if it has to.

I'd go with the 5" plate instead, it will be a lot safer, and you can use any 5" plate you desire. As long as it mounts on the PC and measures anywhere from 5" - 5.5", you are good.

Thank for the replies but since the are opposing viewpoints I don't know who to believe. I'll wait and see if anyone else cares to chime in or if someone can elaborate on the comment that a 6' plate should be fine. I'd like to save myself from buying another plate and instead purchase a couple more pads. But not if I'll risk damaging the pads or scratching the paint.

Let me put it this way. When I placed the 6" (5 3/4") backing plate on the DAS pad, you could just *barely* see the white edge of the velcro backing.

What does your 6" plate measure? They seem to vary which is why I'm asking.

JDookie- Thanks, you've convinced me to go with the 5' backing. Better save then sorry. In your experience do you feel that any of the pads in the DAS lineup performs/outshines the others in its category or do they all perform equally well? I don't know if it's worthwhile or effective, but I was thinking I would use what people felt are the best pads for light cutting (maybe LC orange), polishing (maybe Sonus green), and finishing (maybe Propel grey). Is there any consensus?

Definitely go with the 5 inch backing plate, or you can order the 7.5 inch pads and use the 6 inch backing plate. ALways, beter safe than sorry!
