Quick question about waxing

i just waxed my max the other day and i noticed that in the shade or sunlight i can see where i applied the wax and it moves in a sideways motion, im not sure whatits called but it looks like theres still wax on it but there isnt...



i buffed it all out when i waxed it so i have no clue what it is, if anyone could tell me what it is or how to stop it that would be great thanks..
 
There is a possibility if you were applying wax in a back and forth motion that you didn't get it on evenly and the heavy spots caused the streaks. Rewax 1/2 the area in a circular motion paying attention to getting it on thin and uniform then buff .. see if that gives the same result. Also what brand of wax was it?
 
alright sorry for the late reply, i used meguires gold class wax with the yellow applicator that comes with it not sure the name? i used a back and forth motion, and i think streaking as u guys put it is what it is, its only in some areas..



i did not do it in the sun, the car was cool and no it was not a cunsomer wax :(



i thought that going in circles was bad and not the way to wax? i was told and read that you should go in lines... i buffed it then wipped away with a terry cloth and then used a meg detail spray.. thats all i really know, i guess i can wax over it again, thanks for the info
 
You just might have use a bit too much wax and some of the oils in it are still on the paint. Usually a quick detail product will remove them.
 
ya actually i think so to, i remember i did use a little to much probably, im never really sure how much is enough, thanks il try that
 
Terry towels is the first mistake. I agree with Scott, sounds like maybe a tad too much, or ya didnt let it dry completely....Do yourself a favor and get some Microfibers for all wipedown applications.....

World of difference....
 
sounds like your cloth is loaded and just pusing wax around



either use less wax or get more towels



microfiber is what I recommend :up
 
yeah, it's store bought, but it's better then most. I think all of us value a clean vehicle, and all of us started out with store bought stuff. Nobody can say they new about the hundreds of detailing products out there and honestly, only a few people on this board really know the difference



Maxima91...keep using the Gold class and see if it gets the results you want with the price and effort you want to invest. Btw, I've got a 93 Maxima SE...nice to see another Max rolling down the roads

A consumer wax is just a product marketed to the masses, e.g. Meg's consumer line vs their professional line. Consumer waxes are infamous for leaving wax marks. I wasn't trying to put down, Maxima91. Without any additional information my best guess was that he was using a consumer wax.



I agree with medic. GC is better than most. If you properly prep your finish I'm sure you'll get good results from GC.

Don't get hung up on the whole elitist mentality that all products that you can buy off a retail store shelf is "crap". Retail products are meant to be sold to the average consumer, but that does NOT mean it is a poorer product than something that is marketed to "professionals". It's all too easy (especially here at Autopia) to get caught up in this type of thinking that something with the words "professional" on it, or something that has the exclusivity of being mail-order only is somehow better than off the shelf products.



Just know your products and use what works. Many products that you can buy easily are very good, and quite a few professional/limited edition/boutique/exclusive/whatever products aren't as miraculously better as they'd like you to think.

Dealing more with your waxing problem Maxima91, it may very well be that the paint needs some preparation before using Gold Class. It only has (reputedly) mild cleaning abilities so you might want to try claying and polishing with a pre-wax cleaner at the least first. HTH



PS: I was expecting you to be a 3rd Gen owner, not a 4th Gen! :p
 
thanks for the info man, i agree with you.. and as for my Maxima, i used to have a 90, then i got a 99, 91 is my hockey number :D
 
I'm with Brian here. With the right technique, excellent results can be achieve with most any decent products. Just have a look at some of Scottwax's posts with pics in them. :bow
