Quick impressions of some Griot's products

Got the package today; I opened the bottles and used small amounts. Initial impressions:

First, I found out that it's "Gri-oh's", not Gri-ought's".

1) Window Cleaner. I'd be really surprised if there is anything other than isopropyl alcohol and water here. Probably a proprietary ratio. This one bums me out.

2) Leather Care. Very nice. I used it on the front seats of the Miata. Nice smell, nice look.

3) Leather Scent. One shot under each seat. Slightly artificial, but not bad. Less is more, as in many detailing products. Jury's out. One shot might work better.

4) Speed Shine. Slick, effective. I'm not fond of the smell, but I could see some people liking it. It didn't decrease the "POP" of Souv Paste on the hood. That's all I need from a QD: "first, do no harm".

5) Carpet Brush. Kinda nifty. Hard rubber brush with rubber knife edge, for agitating deep into carpets. I tried it without cleaner, to see how deep into the carpet nap it gets; it should work into pretty deep pile, something my Chevys and Mazda don't have.

6) Interior Cleaner. Quickly removed black scuff mark from tan vinyl. Very little residual odor, if any (highly desireable characteristic of an interior cleaner, I would think), but I didn't use but a small amount on a towel.

There you have it, the quick and dirty initial impression. I might ask for a refund on the window cleaner, everything else is at the very least interesting.

I'm a sucker for these Griot's threads :D

Mosca- Heh heh, I'm one of those people who DO like the smell of the Speed Shine. It's one of those products I just like using. Remember to always shake it up well! See how you like having it on your wax- I've noticed the areas I've sprayed with SS (like bird bomb removal spots) seem better protected than the areas I haven't (judging by beading, etc.). Consider your shipping charges before returning the window cleaner! Now that you've had an OK Griot's experience, I oughta start going on about the smaller boar's hair brushes, pn 15520...

I agree with you on the Window Cleaner. Their UnderCarriage spray is awsome, really does the trick. I like most all of their products even though they are a little pricey. Where Griots really stands out is in customer service; its second to none in my opinion.

Regards,

Huh on the Window cleaner?????

I don't really care what the Griots Window cleaner is made out of, all I know is that its great.

I have used it and more recently their window wipes for about a 18 mths.....and in summary they are outstanding. (especially when matched with their lint free paper towels)

I have not found anything better to get a concours finish to my windows.

I tried the Undercarriage Spray when I detailed dboat's Acura. Real nice product. Gives the fenderwheels a nice black satiny sheen.

I'm not saying the window cleaner isn't good, I'm saying that I could mix a couple bottles of isopropyl alcohol with some distilled water and have the same gallon for about two bucks. Lord knows I have no aversion to spending money, but geez, at least make it smell lemony or something, make it less obvious. You know, say you love me.

I QD'd the entire car (sans hood, see LS thread) with the Speed Shine. It might be my imagination, but it seems to put back the "Pinnacle pop" that is removed by washing. (Meaning, the loss of "pop" might also be my imagination.)

I still have trouble with the smell (cotton candy?), but I'd say that in action SS is equal to Crystal Mist, my other favorite QD, at a much lower price.

I have had really good luck with Griot's products.

In fact I have a lot of their products listed on my website in the Detail Section.

I am hooked on their Speed Shine and clay before every wax job, and of course their Best Of Show wax.

I have not tried their interior cleaner, as I have been using that Tuff Stuff in the yellow spray bottle with good results.

I just ran out of alloy wheel polish recently.

I have been using Eagle One's Billet polish for my non coated alloy wheels, as that is what Centerline told me to use.

I need to order more BOS and Speed Shine, so I might try the Griot's Mag Wheel Polish to see how it works.

I bet it's very similar to Mothers Mag Wheel cleaner, not sure.

Still debating to try it, or stick with the Eagle One Billet stuff.

griot has a folding bench for getting to the

roof.;you can walk out to the end and it dosent tip over, very safe very usrful.

here know that I am a GG fan.. I make no bones about it..

I like interior cleaner, so does my wife and we have two separate bottles of it one outside and one inside.. it is really really good.

I also like the wheel cleaner... just darned works and works well.

The leather cleaner is great along with the leather conditioner.. nice smell too..use it inside on the leather sofa and jacket.

I use the boars hair brush to wash, the rolling bucket, the incredibly expensive hose sprayer:shocked

I use the chrome polish and the three machine polishes.. I havent been disappointed in anything I have bought or used...

I have quit using BOS wax because it is a B**** to remove if it dries at all and have moved on to S100.. my brother, father and some friends are converts to it as well.. thinking about sending back the BOS wax..

I love SS but Scottwax was over and used some Clearkote QD (uh, help me out here Scott) and darned if it didnt look better. I was so PO'd at him for doing that.. :D but I will finish up my gallon of SS and get Clearkote next time..

I will continue to buy their bottles and sprayers, they are just the right size and the sprayer is perfect.

I will use the rubber and tire dressing on the dash and such because it is low gloss..

The undercarriage spray, (sprayed it on Scottwax's Honda too) is pretty darned impressive and has impressed everyone that has used/seen it... it just plain rocks.. it will last a while too..

If GG has it, I may have tried it.. you might check with Redcarguy as he likes a lot of GG stuff too but isnt afraid to post what he doesnt like..

Ohh I have the pilfer resistant valve caps (Ford) too.. they are cool and makes people ask, how do they come off? nice conversation piece..

I love people that say they are going to return Griot's products because, oh, it was a ***** to remove. It's more likely due to the humidity and/or excess application in this instance. But hey, at least you have that option.

And so what if the glass cleaner smells like alcohol? So does Rain-X, and i don't see people lambasting that product for that. The important thing is that it works.

I like the vinyl dressing, interior cleaner, and the wheel cleaner with 3 finger detail mitt.

Thanks for the complement dude.. like you would know.. dont be an @ss...

Like I said, I'd be surprised if there was anything other than isopropyl alcohol and distilled water, not that it smells like alcohol. At $17/gallon, at least make it smell like lemons.

I have no idea what ratio of isopropyl alcohol and water to use and I doubt niether do you. Also you don't know for sure if they are the only chemicals any way.

A 35 oz bottle of Griots window cleaner costs $5.95. 35oz of isopropyl costs about $4-5. So after dilution you might save a couple of bucks.....but remember the cost of the quality bottle that Griots comes in.

The Griots Window cleaner does not contain perfume (lemon) because these extra chemicals contribute to haze. This is by design. I don't want my car to smell like lemons anyway.

There a few Griots products which are over prices......at less than $6 for a large bottle, this aint one of them.

Last I checked, 16 oz of isopropyl alcohoil cost 59 cents.

But, you know what, I re-read your post and, thank you so much-- you've changed my mind. I love it! It's GREAT!

I'm so sorry my OPINION was different from yours!

Tom

Let's keep it cool guys. Everyone is entitled to thier opinion, and should not be attacked for giving it. Tom tried the products, and told us what he thinks of them. That's the spirit of Autopia. Can't we all just get along? ;) :D

roflmao

thanks for the laugh boys. put this in perspective. we're all jumping around because some of us like a window cleaner, others don't, and some think the ones that like it may be idiots. what the heck. if my guys at work knew debating about and thinking about this kind of stuff was what I spent my time on over the weekends, they'd lock me up and consider it one less usless life on the streets. LOL.
