Questions about debadging

If I am not mistaken, debadging is the process of taking the emblems off your vehicle.

My questions.....

1. How do I know if it has the "Two Way Tape" process,or the peg that would leave a hole if removed.

2. what would you use to remove the gunk left behind.

You should be able to look at the badge and see how it is attached. Press on the badge and see if the backing gives. I de -badged my Dodge Ram and the badges were held on by double backed tape. The tape is thick like it has foam between the sticky surfaces. You can do the fishing line (monofilament) method to remove them. I used a plastic putty knife and a heat gun. I heated teh letter/number and carefully slid the putty knife behind the badge. Once it comes off, there is a lot of adhesive and foamrubber looking stuff. I used 3M decal and adhesive remover and it came off pretty quickly. You will probably get some light scratches from the removal, but they polish up nicely.

Body shop guys use a 3M part that you spin in a drill or die grinder at 2000 rpm that is specifically made for this.

Dental floss will be a tad easier on the paint than the fishing line, heat it first, should be easy

WD 40 will remove the sticky stuff easily too

One thing you may find is the paint may be faded and you can see an outline of the badges. My truck was new when I removed mine and after 2 passes with some cleaner on the orbital it was totally gone. You may get some light scratches when removing them, but they buff out easily. Some use a credit card to get them off too. The sharp edge of the card typically leaves light scratches but its nothing that can not be buffed out.

yea.. fishing line to cut through the adhesive and goof off worked for me. Be sure to wash and wax the area when your done!

werd, that is one of the most beautiful trucks i've ever seen... those neons are gorgeous under your truck, it's usually hard to make undercar kits work well with trucks that aren't slammed but you did a great job!

i suggest using a hairdryer to heat the glue and then dental floss to remove... follow up with some goo gone and tadaa! :)

Hair dryer and dental floss are my debadging tools...although, today I removed a dealer emblem on an Escalade just by slowly pulling it downward. The emblem and the double sided tape all came off without leaving any residue. It usually isn't that easy though.... ;)
