Questions about a booth at a show

So I'm trying to get ready for a local car show thats coming up and I was hoping that I could get some advice from any of you that have done this sort of thing before.

I have a couple of clients that will be entering their cars in this car show, so I figured that would be good advertising; and there's no cost for booth space, so I figured it'd be worth it.

I'm trying to figure out everything I need to bring to set up a very professional, clean looking booth.

As of right now I'll be bringing a black 10x15 three-walled, open front tent (half of which will be a display area, the other half of which will house a customers Continental GT), as well as all the materials for the display (brochures, business cards, LCD TV with before and afters of the Bentley, etc)

So a couple of questions:

I'm going to have a banner printed up with my logo and website on it. What size logo do you think would be appropriate for a tent this size?

I was thinking about doing a raffle for a free wash job or maybe a self made mini detail kit (soap, degreaser, wax, etc) to try to create some hype about the booth. Do you think this would be worth it?

Do you think I should set up a demonstration area (on an old hood or something) even if I have the TV with the before and afters?

I'm hoping to get some feedback from any of you guys that have done this sort of thing before - just to kind of learn what worked for you.

Also, any feedback on my ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Large banners with very short and clear contact and company name are nice. A video of the process you go through, and lots of stills running on a loop. Rope off the Bentley, you will be suprised what people do (do not touch)! Make sure it is know where you clients cars are and that you clients know you are passing this information out. Do a raffle. Have them fill out the form, get their email address and let them know they will be on your mailing list (lots of positive used for this without becoming annoying such as specials, tips for maintenence between visits to YOU etc), bottom half of the forum is their raffle ticket that they tear off and they MUST keep it to redeem the prize plus it will have your contact information on it. Demonstrations are GREAT. Get a hammered hood (junk yard?) and show them what can be done. Remember, you are trying to show them what YOU can do, NOT how to DIY. So keep your products unmarked and when asked what products you use give them something like "I have hundreds of them as every job/car is different". Clearly display the times you will be doing demonstrations. An empty booth is of no value. DON'T hide out in the tent, get out their with the people and meet and talk to them.

Look and act professional at all times. You are trying to get them to part with 100's of their hard earned dollars. They have to beleive it is worth the money. Convince them that it is (and not just for Bentley's and show cars).

Thank you, sir, for the feedback.

It is much appreciated.

Out of curiosity, what do you think would be an appropriate time limit for a demonstration...if any?

I know a lot of people will lose interest after a certain amount of time.

Do you think a shorter demonstration (high quality work on a smaller area) would be the most effective way to do that, or do you think that time would even matter?

I would have picture book on the table in front of you along with all the appropriate literature 0 cards, flyers, brochures, etc

have the bentley on display, but have the befores and afters of other cars so people can see the outcome and the start! Its easy to get a good looking car looking better, but its more impressive to take JUNK to best of show! Consider taking a hood on a stand and splitting it up into sections:

wetsanded, compounded, polished, polished, waxed (perfection)

compounded, polished waxed (two step)

polished, waxed (one step)

waxed

- this will help to educate the people on what process achieves what results. Split the hood into 5 sections with those 4 above, and one not touched (not touched is in the middle surrounded by the other four)

With the raffle, everyone is a winner, they just dont know it! You get everyone's info and call them up within the next week stating they have won..."blank". It will generate a TON of sales if everyone gets 20% off or $50 off rather than having a 1-3 person winner raffle. You can get booked for the next 100 days if 100 people throw in their info!

I plan on doing that at a couple of car shows this summer, along with a car split right down the middle and crossed in the middle (like a T). The front and rear half will be 100% done for a front view side to side, and the sides will be split 50/50 for a side view side by side view. This way everyone from every angle will be able to see what is going on with my type of detailing.

Demonstrations take away from talking time, so maybe have someone else do it while you explain what is going on. Also, it SHOWS the prospectives HOW to accomplish those end goals...not the point of your booth!

Fantastic ideas man. I definitely appreciate that.

I suppose its worth mentioning that the Bentley's trashed. The owner used to take it through car wash tunnels....................................(sorry, that made me cringe to think about...I had to stop and regain composure) So there will be a huge transformation on that end.

I love the idea for the hood 'cause I offer services with one, three, and five step procedures...so this would be perfect for me. And I also see what you're saying about it detracting from the point of my booth.

That being said, it looks like it would be best to have the hood done before the show so that I could spend more time talking with the customer about the results and less time trying to achieve perfection.

The stuff for the raffle is brilliant as well.

You sir, are a genius. Thank you very much.

To date, the advice is great. Having done several of these shows, remember that attendees at car shows LIKE to take care of their cars.

They really don't need your skills.

The GOLD is in their OTHER vehicles... Think about that - what you really want is the wife's suv/van that he doesn't have time to clean...

At the risk of being crass, you want at least one hottie in the booth.

Girls and cars. It's not my idea, but, trust me, it works.

Just sayin...

They really don't need your skills. (Well, except for problem areas...)
