Question on masking

What do you guys usually mask off when using the pc or rotary? I know you should mask off the plastic trim around the windows and other plastic trim pieces, but where else is it a good idea to mask off?
 
You could also mask off all the crevices of the door, hood, trunk, in between the lights etc. The emblems, manufactor name and model... so not to get any product in there. My biggest problem when i first started with the rotary was splatter on the windsheild wipers, try to mask those off as well.
 
Thanks. Would I mask off from the inside or outside(or does it matter)? If I mask from the outside, what about the area that would be covered by tape?
