Question on cleaning Mother's Powerball???

I searched around but couldn't find how exactly to clean the mother's powerball. Half of it is now all black from using it on polished aluminum wheels. I tried soaking it but the black is not coming out (and is now all over my hands). Anyone know how to get it close to its original red color and free of the black residue?

FYI...I have the little 3" ball and used NXT Polysh to do the job. I was impressed with it.

From the Mother's website:

To Ensure Best Results and Longevity:

· After each use, wash the PowerBall™ thoroughly with liquid dish soap. Squeeze with hands to remove excess water (do not wring). Set in a well-ventilated area to dry before storing in its case.

......

· Not for use with spray-on wheel cleaners; for use with liquid or paste polishes only.

I'd also suggest wearing kitchen gloves (the long ones that you can get from the supermarket) when washing the powerball.

It's not gonna return to 100% of the original color. It just won't happen. The other night I cleaned mine after letting it sit for a couple of days after using it to polish an exhaust tip. I rinsed it with very hot water, then got it very foamy with some Dawn and just squished it around for a bit. Rinsed again, and it looked great. Ready for the next run. Some "dimming" of the original red is to be expected.
