Question for the "northern" mobile detailers

Looking outside and seeing the snow and the cold temps I was wondering how the mobile guys up north or anywhere where the weather is prohibitive survive the winter months.

The fixed location guys can deal with the cold temps, granted they may not be doing alot of business but they also aren't trying to do it outside in freezing weather, even if it doesn't snow or rain.
Do you take other jobs, move south or just try to survive on what you made during the summer.

I don't know about other southern states but here in Florida we have the problem of it raining just about every day from late spring through summer.

Hi, I detail in RI for 7 months and then head to Vegas...but my other job as a musician is the reason why. I detail for about 35% of my gross income....This year I am actually relocating to Sarasota Florida and will do a few tours of New England in the summer to detail and play some shows.....

I haven't seen RI in winter in 6 years because the weather just doesn't fit my lifestyle with work or play...

During the winter (If I even get people) I have a heated garage to work on cars

Here in northern Indiana after a snow it will usually warm up for a couple days and the tunnel wash places are really busy.

Most people use the tunnel wash and replace the salt and sand with a lot of swirls. :crazy:

+1 I have a regular full time job and derail on weekends and evenings in the spring summer fall so I am relieved to be slow now.

I also have a full time job but my hours are 4am to 1230 so that pretty much leaves me the whole afternoon for my detailing. I usually detail 4 - 5 days per week including Saturday I run my business from late march thru early december. I dont even try to work the winter months come december I just empty my trailer and store my equiptment till the spring.

I am lucky enough to have a full time job! but from spring to fall on weekends, I do what I can for extra money. Auto detailing for the most part, carpentry, finish work, paint, and moving and installing furniture. Basicly whatever comes my way. I could make more in a day or two working with furniture, and other jobs, then I do all week at my job.
