Question for the chemists

I heard that 2002 is the last year that alot of the solvent based waxes will be on the market. Something about allowable VOC levels being lowered by the EPA. Seems like many of the favorites mentioned here are solvent based products. Anyone know what products are on the list to be discontinued or reformulated?

The regulations were imposed by CARB (the California Air Resource Board) and become effective in 2005, I think it is (I'll have to ask one of my chemists when they come in later today).

Another state up east (Delaware ?) has implemented the same standards, as I expect other Politically Correct states to do.

The regs reduce the amount of VOC's (volatile organic compounds) in waxes, since, as we know, the millions of people waxing/polishing their cars on a given day are ruining the environment (NOT!).

As the deadline gets closer, you'll see products which are slower to set up, don't last as long, and are more difficult to remove. Expect costs to increase also, as manufacturers are forced to use more expensice components and extensive research to meet these new regs.

Write your Congressman (or his intern).

I have a list of the acceptable VOC limits by product type, if you're interested.
