just wondering about vm added into the detail , with poorboys. i'm getting ready for my first detail, and have seen you talk about it . wouldnt ssr2.5, ssr1, than ex be just as good? have you tried that combo without vm ? also wondering on bonding issue? i know there was a thread somewhere about it ? i have a black vehicle, and was looking for richness and depth, i talked to poorboy and he said to layer ex for depth, did'nt ask him about bonding with vm.......todd

ps mabey adding a glaze like vm would be good as ssr1 is only a polish? i wonder why pb's dosent have a glaze...

bigsled,

I can only relate my recent experience with the combo of CK's VM and PB's EX. These products were preceeded by Meguair's #80 Speed Glaze. The subject is a Pewter (metallic) in color '96 Volvo 850 GLT (my personal vehicle) whose surface had been washed and clayed before beginning the process. I would describe the paint condition to be excellent.

This was my first use of VM, but have been using EX for a couple of years now. The #80 was applied with a LC polishing pad, the VM was applied with a Meg's polishing pad, The EX was hand applied.

I will say that I like the look and performance of EX. The look of this new combo while nice is not eye popping, jaw dropping, swimmingly deep as I have read in the numerous posts regarding VM combos. This as compared to other EX combos I have used. Shortly after application (less than 1 week), we received a (or rather another) rain shower. Instead of the usual (with EX) tight and numerous beads, the surface displayed much larger and more loosely formed beads (it may be a stretch to call the results beads).

I have seen better beading results when using EX over Meg's products #9, Deep Crystal Polish, and Klasse's AIO. Before using this combo on a vehicle other than my own, I will need further testing.

Not sure if you already own the VM yet or not, but might wanna look into some RMG(Red Machine Glaze) from Clearkote. From what I hear it really excels on black and darkens paint. Here's a quick review from MartyGrant, who pretty much used the same products that you are using.

btw, if you haven't ordered anything yet you might wanna check out SMP(www.specialtymotoring.com). Scott is a great guy to do business with and he has some new Clearkote products at an introductory price, along with the entire Poorboy's lineup. ;)

Actually, I'd prefer people ask a general question (because a lot of people here also have experience with Ckearkote and Poorboy's products) and PM me the link if they want my input. First of all, I cannot always get to my computer before late evening and others can answer the question right away and just as well as I could, and second, I just don't have the time any more to respond to all the PMs I get. Frankly, I am ready to change my profile to prevent PMs. I don't get one question, I get people wanting me to go through every single step and product required to properly detail a vehicle I've never seen. I don't mind helping out, but I'm not spending 30 minutes typing out answers to PMs like that.[/rant]

To answer the question, I get my best durability with EX is I use PB's Polish w/carnauba first.
