Question for DK and others? Which tire dressing do you all now use?

I'm a long time user of 303. Thanks to DK, I've also used Z-16 for almost 2 years now. But to be perfectly honest, I was a big, big fan of the old Turtle Wax Tire gel. Some of you old timers may remember that they were in those green bottles. I know that DK was also a very big fan of that product. Actually there were a few of us back then. But that product was discontinued a while back and I'm finishing up my last stored bottle. That particular tire gel was very easy to apply, lasted a week to two. And when I say lasted, I sincerely mean that it kept a real good slightly glossy to nice matte finish. Much better than Meguiars Endurance as it wasn't as oily and didn't turn the tires brown. Wow! I was very impressed. So now this brings me to the obvious question. What product do you all use that's very user friendly and will last a good amount of time. The Z-16 is close to what I'm looking for. 303 and Vinylex just don't last as long as I'd like. Most sprays just don't last that well. I'm wondering if there are any good tire gels out there.

I guess I was spoiled with Turtle Wax. Hear that Brad, Showroom? Yes, I was SPOILED with the TURTLE WAX tire gel. I would have shot myself 2 years ago for having said that.

So kindly list some of the benefits of some of the newer products that have been talked about here the last 2 years. Thanks again.

I'm a big fan of Platinum's gel. I too, used to use the TW, long before I knew about Autopia or anything that could be called detailing knowledge. I like Platinum's because it is not as greasy, oily as Megs. It goes on pretty shiny, but after a day, its relatively matte finish. Honestly, I've only used it on cars that don't ever really get driven that much so I can't comment on durability. I suspect, however, that it lasts about as long as the normal tire gel. Also, I have seen no browning of tires from it.

If your looking for longivity gibe Forever Black a try . Its a water based product that lasts very well. I actually use it on my black lower plastic valances and it goes 30+ washings before I need to re apply. As for actual tire dressing I use a Mold release that is silicone based and its like an Armorall thats 4 times as thick.

As for the tires turning brown do a search on blooming. It may not be your dressing.

I switched from MSLT to 303 because I read how beneficial 303 is for the rubber. I'll take protection and conditioning of the rubber over less frequent applications.

Don!!!!! Good to see you again!!!! How have you been??? :-)

I'm in the same predicament myself. I'm using megs high endurance and 303 but am encountering the same symptons with them that you are. The megs isn't too bad. A good scrub gets rid of the browning. Never had the pleasure of trying the TW gel. Too bad they discontinued it.

The Einszett tire and trim protectant is really, really good. It looks just like Z-16, but seems to last longer. After a week of use, it looks freshly applied.

Also, it doesn't sling at all. You just wipe on with an Eagle One tire swipe, and that's it -- you don't even need to buff it off.

Great info so far. Black Regal, you are too kind. As much as I appreciate the great offer, I just can't inconvenience you that way. But thanks for the good heartedness. Very much obliged.

Thanks for the reply BillNorth! I stop by every few months or so. I've been pretty good. I'm a school counselor at an elementarty school now. The pay is certainly not great but its a very rewarding job. My students are very receptive and candid with me. It feels good to help young children with their social, physical and emotional needs. If it weren't for my work and 850 students, I'd still be totally addicted to this wonderful site.

As for the Turtle Wax tire gel, I really liked the stuff. And remember I'm a car care enthusiast to the 3rd degree. I was skeptical at first, but that product was definitely to my liking. My tires loved it and they always looked nice. I've always been a fan of a slightly glossy finish. Sorry BradB! Kindly overlook this. Thanks for the comments guys. Keep them coming. I'm taking notes with suggested products and their benefits.

I just use zaino or 303 or similar and apply about 3 coats.....

I got some Pinnacle Tire Gel for free when I won the monthly drawing ( a wheel and tire Kit)

Pinnacle Tire Gel is really nice. Not to shiny, nice flat back. Lasts a long time too. The applicator they sell with it is the best I have ever used, its so dirty and torn up and im keeping limping along because I cant find anything like it. Reminds me to grab another soon.

That bottle will last forever too, Mine is 2/3 full and im a fanatic about wheels and tires.

A product that I tend to use frequently is the Vinylex from ???, it gives a nice matte finish and provides protection from UV rays, keeping the tires from dulling out.

I'm very eager to try that new rubber NXT product, hope it offers all the major features we're looking for in a tire/rubber dressing

I too wept over the end of my TW tire gel LOL

I'm using Megs Endurance, and aside from having to use rubber gloves to apply it because it so messy, its not bad...

Don2000g,

I use Mothers Duration Tire Gel , this stuff applies very easely and last on my cars a good 3 to 4 weeks.

Also it smells great, like Sun care lotion:xyxthumbs

They (Mothers) claim that one 8 fl.oz. bottle will last a year , and it does:xyxthumbs

I personally do not think you would be disappointed if you gave it a try :wavey

I still have some tire gel left.....loved that stuff....but have been sticking with Z16......I apply it every other wash....
