Question for car show participants.

Do any of you have a stock or barely modified car that you take to shows? I have tiny modifications, and I go to shows and feel out of place. I mean... I enjoy the hell out of it, taking it out and showing it off, and talking with other car nuts... but wow, it doesn't feel right... Haha. Some folks walk right by, some ask why it's there, some check it out and compliment on occasion.

I've shown a totally stock car at a brand specific show before (and won 1st place stock division :) ). They had 4 classes: stock, modified stock, modified, custom. They also offer 4 participant judged categories.

I now volunteer as a judge for the same show.

IMHO having a super clean detailed car with dripping paint isnt stock. Enjoy the show!

I've got a slightly modified Mustang that I show pretty regularly. I started out with a totally stock vehicle and added a few mods along the way: wheels, exhaust, etc.

The biggest compliment I get is the cleanliness and finish of the car. It's got 14,000 on the odometer and most judges comment on the undercarriage which is spotless. Also, the paint finish is now flawless.

I've found the spectators go for the wild customs (from a visual standpoint, they stand out) and judges go for cleanliness of the vehicle.

After 3 years of showing, I've gotten a lot of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Top 20, etc and it's fun.

I'm currently working on a detailed undercarriage: fully polished exhaust tubing and mufflers (done), painted axle assembly (standard Detroit rust), and an aluminum driveshaft (to replace the standard rusty steel one). Not extravagant by any means, but a nice, neat appearance.

Have fun at the shows and be proud of your ride!

There are a lot of shows that honor stock class cars. Those are the ones that I attend. I don't need to modify my car beyond the few appearance upgrades that I have done. If I wanted the car to go faster, then I would have bought a faster car. :) The 'clean car' car shows are my favorite. in fact, this will be the fourth year that I've sponsored a show specifically for clean cars. Forget how many mods you have or how crazy your body work is. This show is based on how clean the car is and that is the kind that I love to be involved with.

I show my car whenever I can and it's 100% stock. Granted the S2000 is not a car you see everyday so that makes it a little special. Just find a car show that will allow you to show a late model, stock car. I think you'll be surprised how many there are. My favorite shows as well are the ones that put an emphasis on Concours (a/k/a cleanliness).

All I have is a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. It has headwork, cam, 4.7 H.O. Intake manifold, Borla Catback, Chrome Plated Stock Rims, XM Radio w/ Remote, and a painted fiberglass brushguard. (I can post a pic if thats hard to picture.)

One of the reasons I think my car can be there is because I see a few Stock pickup trucks that have that stick-on chrome trim and shadevents on the windows, and untastefully worked rice burners. (The kind with unpainted bodykits, stock steelies, and those super loud fart cannons. I can respect any tastefully modified car, but these are slightly unsightly.) Thats why I thought.. hey, why shouldn't I show mine?

Your doing it for all the right reasons. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise. My truck is pretty modified but it was not when i first began entering shows. Do what you can enter your car and enjoy it for what it is. Some people walk right on by my truck and others spend up to 20 minutes looking at it. Just depends on what they like and are into.
