Question about Microfiber

I'm thinking my Microfiber towels have gone bad or something. I bought a pack several months ago. It's 70/30 and has a medium nap. When you touch it or run it across your hands, it feels just a tad sticky. When you rub it against itself you can hear it snagging against itself. Little crackling sound.

I don't recall it being like this when I first bought it. I figure leaving it in the trunk of my car where the temperature can get hot under the Hawaii sun might've melted some of it since it contains polyester and hence hardened some of the fiber. (Don't know of polyamide can melt too).

My question is, is that possible? I'm afraid of using on paint for fear of scratching.

your mf's are probably fine, i wouldn't worry about it. they are suppose to feel sticky as that's just the nature of mf's. just make sure you wash them first before using them, if they have been sitting around for a while.

on point, are MF's made in china really that bad?

everyone on here seems to like Korean made mF's but are they really that much better?

Can't we use Chinese MF's that are 80/20 w/o worrying about scratching?

it seems that the nicer mf's are made in korea, but... i don't always let that be a factor. your eyes and feel should make the judgement on whatever mf you use. just like anything else, everyone has their own opinion on what they do and don't like. if something works for you and you're happy with the results, use it!

In my experience the Korean tend to be better made and softer, but the Chinese mf is usually okay if from a good detailing brand. I think the place of manufacture is the determining factor.

You might try washing the towels in a mf detergent and see if that relieves the stickiness.

I remember reading a post here I believe stating that Korean fibers are split and those from China are not. Maybe someone else remembers this..then again maybe I am way off base.

ALL of my MF feels sticky and crackly and makes noise when in my hands... thats because my hands are so dry the MF catches on the roughness of my hands. The plus side is it wont slide out of my hands.

you are speaking chinese to me (no pun intended).....

is this bad or good that hairs are split vs not being split...

I just have a hard time swallowing costs for Korean MF's vs Chinese (I have a brand new package of Chinese 80/20 MF's in my garage) and I just want to know that I am not scratching my black Infiniti paint

That's true, I have pretty calloused hands and fingers. From weightlifting and playing guitar.

I rinsed one of them out and it made the water white. I guess that's another gem of wisdom to wash before using.

Anyway I feel much better about my MF's now. Thanks guys.

Now if only they were from Korea.

Ive seen equal quality from Korea and China......That statement may have been true several years ago, but both are in competition nowadays. Just be selective, dont buy them if they dont look or feel right. For what is worth, they stick to my hands also, and thats not necessarily bad. Theres no way your going to melt them in the back of your car, I can guarantee that......
