Question about insurance

Hi everyone,

I have a question about insurance.

I've been detailing on the side in my area for a while now and have recently decided to start detailing full time. I'm a mobile guy and I focus mainly on high-end and collector vehicles. I also do boats and motorcycles. I do a lot of paint correction as well as other minor repair work.

Since I am moving into detailing as a full time business, I know that I need to be insured. My question is, how much insurance do i need?

I know of people getting up to a couple million dollars in insurance coverage. I know thats overkill for what I need.

Just curious as to what your suggestions are.

Thanks,

Donald

When I started mine I got $300,000 Liability, and then etc Workers Comp. I mean $300,000 is crazy because the most expensive paint job I know of is $32,000 on a show car. Which I also do boats, motorcycles and automotive. But $300k is also the state minimum for GA.

I have also been wondering this. I do detailing on the side whenever I get clients, but I have seen a PC break and the car had to be repainted. So, I am kind of hesitant to keep doing this. I am not sure I make enough to even cover the insurance though.

How much do you guys pay for insurance if you don't mind me asking?

i got a quote for about $3500. I thought that was rediculous....still searching.

You make a valid point on the repainting price MachNU, but if you are in said show car and it rolls or you wreck it, that's where the high liabilty will benefit you.

Correct. Plus boats are not cheap to repaint. Getting say a 35-40' Bay Liner or Cabin Cruiser repainted be it you messed up the haul or the cap, could run upwards of $10-15,000. Hell plus with a high liability it doesnt hurt if your doing modified cars, and cleaning under the hood. You can cause some expensive problems, fast under there.

Also for my insurance, it cost me around $50 a month. Since all I cover is the vehicle I am working on, and workers comp to myself.
