question about bug removal (searched)

After reading a few posts the process for bug removal is.. use a bug remover (obvious), then re apply polish, then re apply wax.

I do not like this.

I spent 5 detailing: 3M SMR (x3) then blackfire polish (x2), then blackfire wax (x1), then blitz wax (x2)

After 1 trip 2hrs away the car was covered with bugs. Windsheild, mirrors, front bumpers, hood etc. They arent coming off not even with the bug and tar remover. Im fustrated and will probably have to use Wd-40/DAWN/bug and tar remover and basicaly do the entire car over... because of bugs!

In autozone they sell some bug removal pad which looks like it will scratch the hell out of your car but they say its clearcoat safe.

Is there a way to prevent the bugs from sticking so much to the car? Any special tips or methods that will help? If this is going to happen every month... then my journy in detailing will be a very long depressing route =(

My experience with Zaino is that bugs do not stick. A little Z6 and they just wipe off. I am surprised that BF does have the same effect on bug adhersion prevention. If the bugs are rather freshly deposited on your car, a little soap and water should lossen them up and remove them.. If you can not remove these bugs in a timely manner you might consider using a Bra for long trips. :nixweiss :wavey

ya I use a little QD if I cant clean them off right away but I also Think that the Zaino helps a ton. It helps them to come off easy and it is so slick that they dont stick as bad.....

PS nice VW:):xyxthumbs

Get one of those sticky fly strips and hang it from you car antenna, this way they go to the antenna and not the car:D

If you fall for this, then you should use sandpaper to wax your car

LOL! Or maybe one of those big blue bug zapper lights!

Seriously,

I have 2X Platinum and just 1X P21S wax on my car, and find that the bugs slide right off when I do a regular wash (using P21S Bodywork Shampoo).

What kind of bugs were you hitting? It seems odd that they won't come off even with bug & tar remover.

I just read an interesting post on another forum about the use of a fabric softener sheet as a bug remover, and was touted as being very effective by a number of others. Now, I do not know what condition these cars are in, as it is not a board dedicated to detailing concerns (it was on Miata.net), but I did not see any dissenting opinions and gasps of "not on my car you don't!!" :scared

Anyone ever heard of this?

I use dryer sheets to remove bugs on my 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe.

Works great! Just dampen a sheet. (not dripping) and wipe the area down. Let it sit for a bit and rinse. There is enzymes in the dryer sheet that softens the bug guts. It does work, and though I am no detailer by any means (just an old retired auto tech) I see no damage done to the paint or wax. And I use the cheapest generic sheets you can buy. (not as scented)

i tried using bug remover and theese things are stuck man.. i think my hood temps are really high =D

so i polished and waxed over the sorry attempt at removing them... I will try the dryer sheet tonite, then just rewax over the front. bah =D

Steez!

I told you in a PM, but I'll say it in public...your car made me purchase my 337 - you converted me to a dubaholic...got my GIAC on order along with my Carbonio & strut tower brace...

Ok, anywho...

Get the Porsche Tequipment bug remover. That stuff rocks - spray it on, let it sit a few minutes, then buff it lightly with a damp towel/wash mitt.

While it's true that it will strip the BF, you should be able to wash it as normal and then reapply BF where necessary. I use Zaino on the 337, and the bugs have just been sliding off; though I haven't gone on any 2+ hr drives yet (still breaking it in).

Good luck, and keep that Getto lookin' sweet!

holy crap, yeah I remember your PM, its the only PM i ever got on here =)

Thats totally hot you got a 337!@!!

Great car, I suggest you add front/rear swaybars.. and a GIAC/APR chip =)

Thanks for the porsche tip ill try and order it (somehow someway)

once again, congrats on the car.. check out

for my latest pics :D

I made a long road trip last weekend and my car was covered in bugs. I did not have time to remove the bugs on the same day I made the trip, so the bugs were baked on a whole day. But the next afternoon I washed the car and all the bugs came of real easily and I think that's because I have Meguiar's #26 on my car.

It was almost too easy to take the bugs of.... Meguiars RULEZ!!! :xyxthumbs :bow
