Quality MF's that won't break the bank... Asking for the impossible

You get what you pay for and I have learned that this is definitely true when it comes to MF towels. I'm looking to add some better towels to my collection but am not wanting to break the bank. I'm specifically looking for towels to be used for the following"

1. Rinseless washing - I am currently using CG EcoSmart and want to try some GD IUDJ (if I could get these towels in green that would be a big plus)

2. Compund/Polish/Wax removal/buffing

3. A couple good drying towels

Any specific recommendations would be greatly appreciated or even things to look for in different towels for different functions would be greatly appreciated. e.g., 70/30 vs 75/25 or 80/20 blends, towel weights, silk bands, and nap lengths for different tasks.

Thanks,

Not to be a debby downer, but Chemical guys probably has the best prices (WHEN ON SALE) on good MF cloths. My 2¢

Microfiber towels generally come in one of three types:

1) Chinese made/ Chinese manufactured- This are the lowest priced microfibers and unfortunately they are often the lowest quality. They may work well at first, but car washing and chemical exposure tends to quickly shorten their life.

2) Korean made/ Chinese manufactured- These hybrid microfiber towels feature Korean fabric but are stitched and manufactured in China. The benefit of the higher quality fabric is immediately noticeable and becomes more noticeable after several uses, washes, and chemical exposures.

3) Korean made/ Korean manufactured- Pure Korean microfiber towels are considered the highest quality microfiber towels on the market and renowned for their durable fabric and long lasting construction.

My personal favorite list is pretty simple-

Rinseless/Waterless Washing- Supreme 530 or Deluxe Jr 600
Polish Removal- Supreme 530, Artic White, or Sonus Der Wonder
Drying Towels- hands down the Guzzler series

I, like you, spent money on the cheap towels before I knew what a good towel was. I bought a big pack of Eurow towels, they are a little thin and are a 75/25 blend I think and a weight rating of 300 GSM. I use these for the initial wipe of wax but am now relegating them to wheel duty. I found some on Amazon that are CG and are blue in color with silk edge for just over $15 per 3 pack. They are rated at 550+ g/m2 and are 70/30 blend. Although I haven't used them much I like them for quick detail sprays, final wipe of wax. I will probably even use these for the initial wipe as well. I also have some of GG speed shine towels and like those as well for QD sprays, they are a little thinner than the CG blue towel but are super soft. I have no ratings on the GG SS towels. I just bought a big pack of some Eurow 350 GSM towels with the idea of using them for rinseless washing using the Garry Dean method but have not been able to try them, too cold and too hard to get garage up to temp.

Hope this helps and hope you find what you are looking for. The following are a copy of links you may find interesting. The first is a question I posted a short while ago. The 2nd is a thread on towels that users have posted pics of there towels and the different ones out there. The 3rd is a MF chart.

I agree with MicroTech and Chemical Guys. Both are the same, so the only thing to consider is price, shipping costs, etc. I prefer 70/30 blend if its going to touch the paint. The others wheels, wheel wells, engine, etc.

Those don't lint - MFT 530 towels.

Stick with Korean made towels. Better quality for the money. Believe me. I have a small fortune in towels (literally) and I'd buy Korean over a Chinese towel any day.

Cooter knows his MFs for sure.

What are some good Korean brand named towels then?

I have not heard of a Korean "brand". The Korean manufacturers sell to resellers, usually in container loads, so you just have to look at the resellers country of origin information.

A few years back Viking brand towels had mostly been made in Korea then became made in China. I contacted Viking (Schroeder & Tremayne) and they said the cloth was the same but just cut down and finished in China. Cloth finished in China will say made in China. Some junktalk people will dismiss will dismiss "Made in China" towels but one need to know the full story. Import laws usually require labeling based upon the last "substantial transformation".

So, I was at my local Sam's club today and I ended up picking up a pack of ProForce Commercial Spray Bottles - 6 Pack - Sam's Club and a couple packs of ProForce Microfiber Towels - 24 count - Sam's Club .

I know they aren't the best out there but after hearing a couple good reviews about them and seeing them mentioned in a few posts I decided to give them a try. At 50c a towel if they don't work out I can just give them to my wife for cleaning towels. Either way it goes I will definitely be investing in some good quality Korean fiber MF's down the road.

In the perfect world they'd work out awesome and I'd go back and get a pack in the other two colors then use green for waterless/rinseless washes, blue for first wipe on glass, yellow for interiors, and orange for either QD or wheels and tires(wish they had some in black).

If anyone would like me to send them a couple so they could do some comparisons, especially for any of the tasks listed above, just let me know. I'd be glad to see how that turns out. They're 16x16 80/20 blends.

PB's DMT towel is a really good towel. A really good workhorse towel.

There are several good microfiber towels out there sold by several retailers. Its kinda like finding that paste wax that gives you that look you want. There's some I love and will always have. There's just several choices out there. Rolled edge, edgeless, microbanding, silk banding, plush, super plush, etc, etc. Then you get into blends and gsm's of towels and sizes. Its quite a lot to decipher.

Im with Hooland Patrick, Bunky, Ron, and Cooter on the PBs towels. When I call Steve I just order the Green and Gold towels so mine are all the same except 1, that I dont know where it came from. I do have some blue work towels from PBs and several junk towels from Wally World and Sams Club.

I think everyone's missing a big point here. Yes, we need MF towels to do all kinds of work... but you only need a nice ones for finishing and wipe downs. I use work towels 90% of the time. In a detail I go through about 50+ towels, between interior, trim, drying, engine, glass and final wipe down. out of those 50 or so maybe 5-7 of those are finishing for wax removal or polish removal.

Spend 30$ on 6-8 nice towels and use regular work brands for the rest, problem solved.
