qd'ing after rain

i washed my car on friday and it rained about an hour later so i washed and waxed on saturday. i only drove about a 1 and1/2 miles after and parked (outside) and it rained later. do you guys think that i can get rid of my water spots with qd or should i wash again?
 
I frequently QD after a my car gets rained on or wet from dew/fog. Never any problems. You have to assess if the car has heavy surface dirt that would scratch if you try to wipe it with an MF towel. If so, get the hose out and hose it off.

Yeah I think the answer is "it depends". Sometimes the water dries and leaves lots of dirt because dust from the air had stuck to the water and dried. I figure if it's light non-dried-on dust I might try QDing it.
 
madazskunk, I'm glad you posted the question. I was wondering the same thing myself. I live in Quebec, and we don't have a rainy season. We just get precipitation evenly spread throughout the year. It often rains three or four times a week in summer.
 
I would say it depends also. If I get a light sprinkling on my truck, then a QD will normally take care of it. But, if the streets are full of water, then it normally has thrown a heavy dirt spray on the rockers. In that case, I drag out the power washer and rinse er' off or do a full wash.
 
OK. But how about those of us in NYC? Under the current water use restrictions we cannot wash our cars. I've been QDing regularly instead of washing, and I believe I now have swirl marks because of it. I don't want to use a car wash because of the potential for scratching, dirty water, and gouges in your wheels. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Absolutely agreed. But when the local authorities say you cannot wash your car due to drought restrictions, your options become limited. What do the other guys in NYC do to keep their rides clean?

Im not in NY, but when we were in drought in Austin 2 summers ago I would just wash laste at night, then either detail in the morning or that night in the garage. Hey its illegal... but you gotta do what you gotta do. :wavey
 
hmm, why not save up some water in a drum or something so that you can at least wash your car properly once a week or so?



i'm just wondering, we don't have much water restriction here...



can't you like save several gallons a day and store them so that you can wash during the weekend using a bucket? or is that illegal as well?
 
Yeah I think they don't want to SEE you doing it and "wasting water". I don't think it's a "ration" system where you can save it up.

that sucks... i came across these spray bottles the other day in our local hardware store, it's a large, plastic spray bottle with a pressurized pump, it can squirt out water like a water cannon (btw, can you use water cannons?)... maybe that will help.
