QD Towels....how often are they washed?

I'm wondering if I am being somewhat anal.......I was my MF towel after every use......even if I simply clean off some bird poop.

Needless to say I am washing "car towles" more often than my bath towels. Is this excessive?

My waffle-weave drying towels & my glass detailing towels get used more than once before they are tossed into the washer, but anything else gets washed after every use.....even if it's to do a small touch-up.

Anal? I hope not since I do the same. Especially if I used it for some nasty stuff. Bird poop quailifies as nasty stuff. Actually I try to blot off the bird poop with QD and an old cotton towel rather than use MF. I also can't bring myself to use my MF on the wheels.

Anal? Well maybe a little.

Same here.

Anal? ANAL?!?! Washing your towels after each use isn't anal, it's NORMAL. I use my MF towels one time only, then they're pitched into the dirty MF towel bin. That's why I've accumulated about 50 of these things. I'm not going to wash 10 or so at a time, if I did that I'd be washing these things all the time.

Maybe I need to purchase more towels. I have about 10 towels and 2 cars to care for. I seem to be washing them twice a week....I have no garage!

Exactly how many towels do you guys/gals own?

That's definitely on the low side.... I have anywhere from 20 to 25 small detailing MFs and I have 4 large drying MFs, and that's for ONE car. Then about 50 to 60 100% terry towels for any really dirty work.

Washing MFs after each use is critical I think....and the more you have, the less frequently you have to bother washing them.

Yes, I think it's perfectly normal to use a MF once and then toss it in the wash bin - never thought twice about it. I only own 12 MFs for use on paint, and I was badly hurting for more at the peak of detailing season. I may wait until spring now before buying more.

BTW, this is only for my one car, so if you have 2 you may want to multiply that number by FOUR!

Four large waffle-weaves MFs, about 100 terry MFs, 10 suede MFs & 2 MF bonnets. I usually do a wash when I only have about 25% remaining and that pretty much makes for a good full load every month.

I am new to the detailing myself so don't feel so bad that you are on the low side. I have found myself hoarding both MF towels and 100% cotton terry towels whenever I am at AutoZone or Pep Boys. Developing quite the towel fetish, I think. I'm up to around 10 MF and 20-22 terry. And the number will only go up.

bunch of MF towels as well as 100% cotton ones.

Used to be a bit cheap on washing them. I used to live in a house and washing few towels in the machine seems pretty obscure in the eyes of the family members. But now water is abundant in the condo I now live, so I would toss them in after one use

So I'm NOT insane! I feel better now...time to place another order. I think this time I'm gonna try Pakshak or JT Intl

Thanks,

George

No matter what I use them for, they all get washed after each use. It also helps to have a large supply.

At last count:

100% cotton - 20

MF in various sizes - 40

GFarra, drop PakShak a note and let Ranney know you're an Autopian. He'll treat you right and I think his towels are a little more plush than JTI's, I've got both, and they don't have sewn-in tags.

I have about 10 MF towels for 2 cars and am definitely in need of more. I wash them after each use and am amazed at how dirty the wash water gets...those things hold a lot of dirt. You may want to check out EBay for more towels. Sometimes you can get good quality MF towels that are "slightly irrigular" (nothing big) for a steal.

Bruce:

I was told to boil them not wash them.

I wash after each use also. I wash them in Tide Free liquid, no fabric softener in the rinse cycle. I usually air dry them on a drying rack but occassionally put them in the dryer.

I have approximately 25 MF and 15 terry towels. I wash

my towels after each use - using Charlie's Soap to get them nice and clean. :D

And I use the 'two bucket' method on the SUV.:up
