Q on Meguairs products that I have been using

I am new to this forum, I have a 96 classic red Miata and I have a couple questions.



I routinely wax my car, and the product that I usually use is the Meguiars Cleaner/Wax

I like the way this stuff applies and buffs off easily.



I also have some of the Gold Class wax

I think it looks good with this stuff, but it doesn't like to buff off very easy and seems to leave something like (hard to explain) darker spots that you can see in the reflection that the cleaner wax doesn't leave behind.



Are these good products to be using? Is the cleaner/wax good to use all the time or should I be using something else?



Oh and BTW I have just clayed the car with the ClayMagic kit about a month ago.

Yeah, most of the members here would agree with you. Gold Class gives you a great look, but can be rather difficult to work with. Add to that its very limited duribility, and you've got a problem. It is a beautiful wax though, there's no denying. Are you using the liquid as the picture shows? I had better luck with the paste, I found it to be easier to work with. If you like Meguiar's, give the #26 a shot, I love the stuff. Or you could always try out S100 paste wax (available at any Harley shop)...it is by far one of the most popular waxes on the site here...great results, very cheap and it doesn't get much easier to use.
 
Fritchard - Welcome to Autopia! Something that worked well for me before I got all off-the-deep-end about this stuff was to follow up the cleaner wax with a "straight" wax.



I'd top your cleaner wax with Meg's #16 Professional Paste Wax. Then just redo the #16 from time to time, using the cleaner wax infrequently. VERY easy to do, good looks that last a long time.



*I* like it better than #26, though it's been SO long since I used #26 I can no longer remember why. Mike Philips from Meguiar's also likes the #16, that tells you something...

Unless there is something that you want out of your waxes that those products don't deliver, I would say that they are "fine". Simply switching to another wax alone isn't going to do very much for you I think.



It kind of depends on how much more serious you want to get. ;)
 
All I really want out of the products is decent looks and good protection. I drive the car everyday and it stays outside everyday, no garage or shelter at all. I noticed that the cleaner wax seems to last longer than the gold class.



Where can I find this #26 or #16 at? And is it really better to use just to keep the shine in and last long?

I too have a classic red Miata (MX-5 in the UK) which has no clear coat. When I first bought her I tried the Megs Gold Class & got the same uneven streaking with dark patches. So far the best combo I have tried is DACP (if you need it) VM & P21S (or S100 for you guys in the US). Almost all liquid waxes cause the same problem as you are having, pastes do not. I have also tried One Grand Blitz wax which also works well but isn't as easy to remove as P21S.

I apply the DACP & VM with a PC, the best purchase I ever made, even though I had to import it from Coastal Tools in the US & buy a step-up transformer (we run on 240Volts in the UK)
 
I would switch over to Meguiars Mirror Glaze line or even their Body Shop Professional line. You can go to Meguairs site at www.meguiars.com and find the link to professional distributers in your area.

I like it too, I think #16 is a great wax...excellent beading action and pretty durable. And as me and Accumulator talked about in the past, when your done with the tin can, it will make for a great cigar ashtray!! :up
