This isn't really to do with waxes or sealants but more to do with a 2 year experiment in frontal paint protection for winter and the outcome.
Up here we have a lot of - 3/4" crush used on the roads and its hell on the paint... chips everywhere. There is the option of the clear or invisable bras but for me I didn't like the visable lines or the haze in them after a couple years.
Other option is a Bra and to keep it from marring the finish it is protecting is a chore ..
What I opted for was a bug deflector on the hood and electrical tape ..
Yes electrical tape .. 3M Scotch Super 88
Last year I covered the backs of the mirrors , the leading edge of the roof and the bulges in front of each wheel well and the very edge of the fender well opening ..
It worked so well this winter in Nov I applied it to the same area as last year and I did the complete frontal area ( nose ) of the car ..
To remove it I just pointed the nose to the sun and waited 20 minutes and peeled it off strip by strip at a radical angle.
End result .. No rock chips ( even tho the tape was bruised in a few areas) no paint hazing from the sand and no tape residue.
A quick wipe with a QD after the wash and there was no evidence the tape was there.
As my car is black it wasn't too noticable .. but to me if it saved the paint .. who cares .. cost was $4.
The first pix shows some of the tape on the fenders before it was removed.
The second pix is just a brag shot of a car that just went through 4 heavy winter months ..
Nowwwwwww time to polish
