Pros and Cons of fluorescent diffusers

Finally getting ready to hang some lights in the garage. I've seen pictures of several of you guys' gargares and some have diffusers, and some don't. Are there reasons why you would or would not want them?

Diffusers take away the ‘harshness’ of bare fluorescent light. You might prefer an ‘egg-grate’ type of diffuser, light is diffused but not muted. Just a thought
