I get confused on what pad goes with what and in what order. I ve been using all the Maguires pads. Here is a list of my pads and products please help!!!!
I have the yellow, red and the finishing pad

4 star upp
4 star paint cleaner
Poorboys ssr1
maquires med cut and or show car glaze
Maguire's yellow wax protector
Natty's - by hand
4 star gloss
Poorboys chrome polish- what pad to use for this????

Also is there a pad to use after the wax has been removed to just buff the truck??? Also a pad for the chrome polish

First off, you don't have enough pads. :D
A good rule of thumb is to use a polishing pad with polishes, a finishing pad with finish products. (waxes/sealants)
In your case my pad/product combinations would be.

4 Star UPP
Finishing pad
4 Star UPC
Polishing pad
Poorboys SSR1
Polishing pad, if used with the red cutting pad, it might be somewhat more aggressive in removing swirls
Meguiar's med cut
If you are referring to Meg's #2, this is a product for rotary use. It most likely won't work properly with the Porter Cable RO
show car glaze
I don't use #7, but I would think either a Polishing or a Finishing pad would work
Maguire's yellow wax protector
If this is #26, a Finishing pad would be my choice
Natty's - by hand
You got it
4 star gloss
4StarUGE wouldn't be a PC applied or removed product for me
Poorboys chrome polish
This I have not heard of, but a Polishing pad would be what I would use since you describe it as a polish

As far as what order,
1. SSR1 and a polishing pad
2. 4 Star UPC and a polishing pad
3. 4 Star UPP and a finishing pad
4. 24 hours later, 4 Star UPP and a finishing pad
Touch up with 4 Star UGE as needed in the days that follow

Not the only way to do it, but the way I would do it.:)

The title of this thread threw me off. I thought it was about using the PC as a sander for wood, which was actually an easier sell to my family than using it as a buffer for my car. I actually bought sanding disks to put on the PC but have yet to use them. I wonder which use came first?

I agree with CharlesW's advice. Polishing pad for polish, and finishing pad for finishing, generally.

Yeah what Charles said, but I would switch #1 and #2 SSR1 will give more of a glaze look after UPC does the paint cleaining...

For chrome and I'm assuming we're talking about Pro Polish, I would always do by hand...chrome is a plating not a solid metal and can be damaged easily with too much friction.

Interesting.
Your system has been suggested before, cleaner, then swirl remover, final product.

I have always used my swirl remover product, (Meg's #9), first, then my cleaner polish, (Klasse AIO), then my final sealant, (UPP).
Since my mix of products is a little different, I'm not sure if your method would be right for me.
Using #9 after AIO seems counter productive.

I also use Meg's #9, Poorboy's PwC, Meg's NXT, on one vehicle right now. IMO, another good combo.

Boy, there sure is a lot of good stuff out there.

Is there a tutorial somewhere online on how to use the porter Cable for car detailing for those of us who have never used one before ?

That's some cool stuff.

Is the meguires polisher the same as the Porter Cable that everyone talks about?
For all practical purposes, yes.
It is badged "Meguiar's" and does have a lifetime warranty when purchased from Meguiar's.
