Proper foam contour pad usage

I just received my orange pad, and PC, and have never used one.



Looking at the contoured orange pad I wonder if you are supposed to compress it enough when using it to make contact with 100% of the pad. Seems like a fair bit of pressure to accomplish this. Or do you just let the edges to the work? Wouldn't this create more heat?

It is a VC pad. That link helped - thanks.



So, as I thought the extra friction is caused by the reduced surface area in contact with the paint. I don't lean on it to polish!
