Products and their Scent

I was trying out a sample of some tire and trim dressing this weekend and it made me think about the scent that manufacturers put in their products. The dressing I was using smelled like mint and I have to say I liked it a lot.

I've used some car washes that smell like chemical and were pretty strong. It was strong enough that I didn't enjoy using it. I've used some products that have an overpowering scent and it can be just as bad as the chemical smell.

Does the scent of a product play a roll in your decision to use it?

Not really for me but it does make a difference in whether or not I like to use it. I love the smell of Fuzion.

I'd have to say no.

Prior to ordering a product there's no way of knowing the actual fragrance of a product. Some may indicate a coconut or bubblegum scent but stating the scent has no impact on my purchase.

The tire and trim dressing wouldn't be DP Gloss Tire Gel would it? I've found that Gel has a pleasant mint scent to it....

I don't think it plays a role in my decision to use it, but it sure does make the experience much more pleasant. Every time I open up my car product cabinet, it's a nice experience! Although I will say that I was using a wax this summer, and it seemed like the bees were enjoying it even more than I was.

I had that issue with DP Xtreme Foam. Once I had the car covered in foam there were a few bees that kept coming around and trying to land on the car.

No, It was Garry Dean's product I was trying out.

This is my thought also. If it smells decent, that is just a bonus to a product that works well. I'm sure it plays a role with our subconcious mind, though. It is kind of like subliminal marketing.

My tuned performance tire and trim gel actually has a spearmint fragrance. I'm glad you like it.

Its funny but if you get some of the best detailers around to test or look at a bunch of products the first thing they do is open the bottle and sniff it. To me the scent has to be pleasing. I love the smell of Souveran, Midnight Sun, most Prima products, most Meguiar's products, Zaino, Fuzion, and so on.

Hmmm most Meguiars stuff as much as i like them have a chemical smell to me. Now Fuzion and DoDo stuff smell good. Hell my wife even likes them. And she could care less about car stuff.

Never thought about it, but that is the first thing I do is smell it. Maybe it's sort of a subliminal thing. I'm just a smell good freak either way, I love all types of smell goods.

Does smell play a major roll? NO.. I mean look at Iron X. That smells like crap... But is a product has a nice scent and I have a choice between it and one that has a foul oder I will most likely pick the better smelling product.

That's what made me think of the thread. When I opened Garry's products the first thing I did was sniff it.

I don think smell prevents me from using a product if it works well but if there is another product that works just as well and smells better I'd probably pick it over the one that smells bad.

Your right it is spearmint. Made me think of chewing gum. I think the dressing gave the tires a nice sine. Not too shiny and dried to the touch. I think I like it better than the Black Onyx gel I've been using.

Smell doesn't affect my choice to use a product, but there have been times that I picked up the wrong bottle and with the first squirt/spray realized I had the wrong product because of the smell. (Think D300 & D301) I wish more polishes would be formulated this way, because it's very easy to confuse them without carefully checking the label.

no way!!!!! megs ultimate quick wax smells so good. one reason i stick with it. the fact that it works well is a bonus. :)

DP Rinseless wash is my other favorite. it makes my temporal lobes feel good.

mwtaco your right I wasn't thinking of those when I posted. I actually like the smell of the UW and Quick Detailer. I had trtaditional waxes and polishes in mind.

You know what really smells good, is PB Natty's Red. I can't tell if the stuff is candy or wax. Most of my Meg's and Optimum products smell good as well.

I just tradeed for a jar of Natty's Red from ziggo99 and it does smell really good. Cool thing about all these products is the garage smells good for awhile after using them.
