Product Recommendations Please

Tires- In the past I have used the Tire Gel- Both the Satin and Gloss. I have had trouble with build up , so my technique could probably use some improvement. But as the result I have switched to using #40 on my tires. I love the natural look, but it doesn't last to long. Do you have a product suggestion on how to get a natural look that would last longer?

Thanks

Hi Jeff,

You might try the new Tech Protectant. The chemist told me it is water insoluble so it should last longer.

I would recommend applying it by hand with a foam applicator pad. Everyone has their own preference as to how shiny, or how satiny they like their tires. My own personal preference is for Hot Shine High Gloss Tire Spray. I love the convenience the aerosol can provides by allowing you to spray the tire dressing on like you're using a can of spray paint. It enables you to spray the dressing into all of the intricate shapes and designs in a lot of tires.

If you spray this on and leave it as is, it will add a lot of shine but you will risk spin-off.

What I like to do is to spray it on and let it penetrate for 10-15 minutes and then remove any excess with a clean towel. This leaves a satin finish and prevents spin-off.

Hope this helps...

Mike- Thanks for the quick reply. I like the spray can idea, will get me some ;)

On a personal note... I would like to say thanks to everyone @ MeGuiar's. The New England Viper Club put together an Exotic Car Show in June, It was to benefit the Make A Wish Foundation. Your sponsorship helped send a child and his family on their Disney Vacation. Jerry Colpitts jerry@neviperclub.org did most of the fund raising for me, was to forward some event T-Shirts to Barry MeGuiar. If you need a few more just let me know...(sizes, address).

We had over 140 Cars attending and raised over $10,000 (our first year), Plenty of photos in the Car Show, Concours forum.

Wow!

That's awesome Jeff, thanks for sharing that information. I wish there were a way to get some people that attended to post some pictures with some comments to http://www.meguiarsonline.com/index.php perhaps in the Car Crazy Events forum.

Do you have link to anywhere with the pictures and details of the event posted?

Thanks,

Mike

On topic, you can use Endurance after you clean the tire, and then use something like #40 subsequently. You'll see the Endurance durability is still there and the #40 sort of refreshes it. Or NXT Tech Protectant, or whatever. I usually do this when I use Endurance.

I did just order the Hot Shine spray to try, though, as I'm low on Endurance. Hopefully it won't be too bling-bling. I also keep meaning to try my #38 on the tires...

Aurora40- When you apply the Endurance, what do you use to wipe (or buff) off the excess? I find that it builds up in the Tire Lettering and gets sticky... attracting dust build up.

Thanks.

I have two types of towels in my collection, good towels and tatty towels

I save tatty towels, towels that are not worthy to be used on the finish of a car to wipe the excess dressing off. I also have microfiber polishing cloths that are not worthy of touching a car's finish that I use for this also, the microfiber polishing cloths tend to leave less lint on the tire.

After spraying on the Hot Shine, allow it to penetrate for 10 to 15 minutes and then wipe the tire down with a tatty towel or microfiber to remove any excess and tone the shine down.

Can't beat Hot Shine aerosol for ease of use, I love using it on the Honda Pilot tires because they have all these intricate designs to the sidewall.

I like M-38 also, if I didn't use Hot Shine, next I'd probably go for M-38

Heheh, I use old socks... One sock and I can buff out 4 tires, then throw it away. So, if I go through a dozen pairs of socks or so a year, then that's a tire buffer-offer every 2 weeks. :) I also use tire swipes which seem to help distribute the product more evenly and sort of keep buildup out of lettering.

When I use products like #40/Poorboys Natural Look/NXT Tech Protectant after the Endurance, I usually don't buff them off. They leave a nice rich look and don't sling so I figure why mess with it.

I've been using #38 on tires lately and I love it, lasts for a good amount of time (2-3 weeks) and doesn't give it a very glossy shine which I like (I'm not a fan of glossy tires)

Hyper Dressing from the Detailer's line is real good, plus you can control the gloss by how much you cut it. 3:1 gives a nice natural sheen and 2:1 is glossy.

Try using Bold N Bright instead of Natural Look by just wiping on with a sponge ...if it's too glossy for you then wipe it down with a dmap cloth after it dries;)
