Parent's Truck:

2004 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax/Allison

Color: White

Use: Daily Driver. Stored Outside. Weekend Lake Duty.

Condition: Severely Swirled (Highly noticeable even though its white)

Current Care: Wash with Car Wash Soap (+), Washed with Car wash brush (Big -)

Goal: Clay, Deep Polish, Seal (Durable Sealant), Have a product that is super easy to use (OCW, or other spray wax) that my step-father can use to keep it looking good.

It's a really nice truck and deserves to really look sharp. I was thinking Zaino.. Something like Z5x2 + Z2x3. I have experience in the past with zaino but haven't used it in a while. Will there be issues (bonding) with OCW or similar products on top of zaino?

Products I currently have:

AIO

EX-P

Nattys

SSR1

SSR2.5

RMG

#83

#7

#26

I have no problem ordering new products as I'm getting new pads and towels anyway..

-Will Optimum Compound take care of these swirls? They aren't extremely deep I dont think, but there are alot of them. Is it stronger than SSR 2.5

-Should I go with OCW or AJT or something else for easy maintenance?

-So pretty much I'm going to go for swirl free, I'll seal it with something durable but hope it looks real sharp. And they will keep it up a few months until i can re seal...

What do you guys think? I've looked around but haven't used the majority of stuff. The reviews make everything sound good but anyone have something that really stood out?

Thanks,

Pete

I'm not sure about some of what you are asking...but you definitely need to modify the wash techniques so the marring isn't re-introduced.

Since you say the swirls aren't that deep, I would think that #83 or SSR2.5 on a cutting or orange pad should work fine, and on white not require a second step (with the orange pad). I've found the SSR2.5 to finish a little better (on black)...since the swirls might be worse than you think, I might try one #83 pass on a cutting pad, followed by SSR2.5 on an orange.

As far as the LSP (presuming you get the wash practices straightened out), OCW will be fine. If you wind up with Zaino, Z8 is very easy to use.

First, Thanks Setec for your input.

Unfortunately, I don't live with them (them in CA, me in Las Vegas, NV).. but I will try to get them with a mitt and two buckets if possible. Anything but that damn brush.

I've been detailing my black trucks for a good couple years, (reading here for atleast that long), but have never really detailed many white cars (always dealt with carnubas instead of sealants). I've seen some done right where the white just pops at night etc and thats what I'd like for them, but I dont know what produces that effect on white. Additionally, it has to be durable or easily kept up. I've seen EX-P look good, and heard good stuff about UPP, Optimum, Zaino (sharp reflections), I just haven't had experience with them so I'm looking to the guys here who try everything it seems like.

Thanks in advance guys.
