Well just bought some used Comptech Stainless Steel header for my 01 CL-S. I guess the previous owner had them on for about 10k miles. Well they are in great overall shape except for the appearance. I have an appointment tomorrow to have them installed, but of course I have to clean them up a bit before they can go on my "Autopian" car. Looking around the house I need something STRONG becuz these headers seem reaaallly dull and almost black like the inside of exhuast pipe would get.

First I tried Mothers Mag Polish with some improvement but still didnt refinish the metal like I wanted. THen I tried some AIO which did about the same or less improvement that the Mag Polish did.

Looking for a stronger alternative I found under my mother's kitchen sink this stuff called "CARBON-OFF"

"Heavy Duty Carbon Grease Remover CARBON-OFF is a powerful gel that dissolves grease and carbon buildup from metal surfaces, teflon, brick and glass. Carbon-Off works quickly and easily saving time and labor. SAFE ON ALUMINUM"

"Removes Baked On grease adn Carbon from Metal surfaces deep fryers teflon popcorn kettle barbecue grills.....etc."

Well the directions say to apply a "generous coat" to the surface and let sit for at least 15 minutes or longer depending on the buildup. You can even let it sit over night and it wont harm the finish.

Well I decided to give the stuff a try to see if it works better then the mag polish and AIO. So far its been sitting for about 15 minutes but i will wait a little longer.

Any one else have any expierence with this product??

Yes it melted the pipes into a puddle of metal!

Just kidding...I have 0 experience with this product

lol, scared me at first with Yes it melted the pipes... I was thinking NOOOOOOO!!!! Dont toy with my emotions! ;) Well i just tried brushing the product off with a steel brush and it ended up improving the overall appearance more so then my previous two methods but it still isnt back to its orinigal luster and color. Oh well since you cant even see them when installed I guess it doesnt even matter.

I should try to redeem myself after fooling with you like that-

Exhaust System:

Stainless steel is a strong, robust and durable metal that far exceeds life spans of several other materials. Stainless steel is not just one material; it is a family of chromium containing steels, which all possesses an inherent resistance to corrosion. The chromium is distributed throughout the steel and its purpose is to form a sub-microscopic surface layer of hard, adherent chromium oxide on steel, a few atoms thick.

The film is known as the passive layer, and it protects the underlying material from attack by corrosive species. If the layer is damaged in any way, it instantly reforms in the presence of oxygen to protect the surface of the material. To polish use a mild polish (Happich Simichrome) to remove stubborn stains use an abrasive polish (Heavy Metal® Ultra Fine Abrasive Polish)

Exhaust Tips / Pipes:

To clean exhaust piping use a polishing powder (Blue Coral Blue Buster) to remove â€Ëœblueâ€â„¢ from exhaust pipes wet towel and polish, it will not scratch chrome, can also be used on brass and stainless steel. For exhaust pipe polishing use a strip impregnated with a metal polish (Luster Strips) (See also Chrome / Stainless Steel Exhaust)
