Product Advice

2002 Maxima SE

New member
I've got a PC, Sonus Pads (Blue, Green, Orange) and SSR 2.5, 2, 1. This combo has kept my 10 year old Maxima looking great for years. I've got some water spots on the hood and trunk lid though that 2.5 and the orange pad don't get off.

What pad and product could I step up to for a bit more aggressive action?

Well, certainly there are some very aggressive polishes available now, such as Meguiar's 105 or the similar OTC Ultimate Compound. Both of them should have quite a bit more bite than SSR2.5, and finish down fairly well, certainly something that could be finished off with the SSR2.5. The question is whether you really want to get that aggressive with a 10-yo car. Are these water spots from a sprinkler, etc.?

PS If they are really water spots and not etched in yet, vinegar or one of the decon products (and there are a few specifically for water spots; DG makes one) may help you.

Thanks Setec,

I've tried vinegar and that removed some of the newer ones at the time, but I can still see some spots (only in the hood and trunk lid).

2002 Maxima SE- If the spots are "etching", then I'd just live with 'em. I have that on my wife's '00 A8...been there for years, I'm leery of thinning the clear enough to correct them and she's agreed. OTOH, I did remove, well....seriously improve, some nasty etching on my Yukon. But I'm not gonna be parking that in the sun for exteneded periods of time either, and the paint is now so thin that I'll never be able to really correct it again.

Note that horizontal panels aren't really areas where you want overly thinned clear.
