Process for New Cars...

Hi guys,

I ran threw the search and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I have a new Black GM vehicle that I would like to keep the paint in 100% condition threw the 4 or so years I play to own the vehicle. I would like to know what process I should use on the paint and with which products (list suppliers please)

Just tell me how you would go about cleaning it on a regular basis, what you would use to clean it... stuff like that

Also any other information on how to protect the paint/rims/glass.
Example: wash off bird shit immediately

For starters:

What car? year? color? condition? – Daily Driven? Garaged?

What do you want to spend? Where are you willing to spend?

How much effort / labor / trouble / time ?

You will need a clay kit for sure - Mothers or Clay Magic

If you give more info, it will help the process largely. Just be direct with what you want. DC is here to help ya!

I'm willing to spend any amount.(within reason) Money is not an option.

Time isn't a big issue but I can't spend 4hrs. a day w/ it. I have plenty of time on the weekends though and enough time during the weekdays to wash it everyday.



A clay kit? I thought those were for older cars? But what do I know? haha

Clay is a big tool you can use. It removes imbedded dirt / containments. Its like purifying your skin from bumps / scars. It makes the surface very smooth and its like glass. Def. useful! Every detailer will agree clay is important.

Here are some setups:

Local: Mothers / ClayMagic Clay kits
NXT Wax
NXT Wash
Meguiars Deep Crystal Polish
OR #7 Show car Glaze, #20 Polymer Sealant, #26 HiTech Wash

There are some nice products at your local AutoZone / Advance Auto Parts, but I would recommend you LOOk for those first. Report back what you see and any other questions.

Online:
Klasse All In One, Klasse Sealant Glaze, and S100 Paste wax

Poorboy's Polish with Carnauba and EX

Zaino system

BlackFire II

How does the finish look? Swirls ? Defects? I have not listed any Quick Detailers or preparation products. You will need microfibers definitely, as they are another part of a detailer's life.
 
well since the vehicle is an 04, it is brand new and has zero paint defects...

thanks for the help, i'll get to looking for those products.

New cars *very* likely have contaminants on the horizontal surfaces.
Rail dust (brake dust from being transported on a train) becomes imbedded in the surface. It doesn't just lay there!
Industrial Fallout is similar, and can be a result of just sitting on the Dealer lot.
Both issues can cause oxidation (RUST) over time.

Use of a clay bar is inexpensive, simple and quick. Makes the surface silky smooth.
Try this experiment, put your fingers in a baggie or cellophan cigarette wrapper. Lightly glide over the surface.

Unlike polishes, claying does not remove paint, only the contaminants, so you can do it frequently.

Clay Magic ($10) at most automotive retailers.

That's the best answer for protection and shine. Plenty of info on this board about Klasse... I suggest 2 coats of the SG. this combo really makes black cars 'pop'!

Simple he says - you ever see a Yukon Denali? :) - Claying that is a family affair (if you're the Brady Bunch).

Clay is a good start though to get off any contaminants (as said before rail dust - stuff that got one while it was on the lot!!)

Since your willing to invest some money into it I would suggest you get a Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher - it will make quick work of doing that beast. You can get that and a Meguiars pad kit and back plate from www.premiumautocare.com as well as all the other products I'll mention.

The first detail will probably be at least 4 hours of work - (even with the PC due to the size o the SUV).

For maximum bling and ease of mantinence... I would suggest either the 4 Star Platinum line or Poorboy's

For Four Star - you can get a whole range of products to keep it looking sharp.
Ultimate Auto Wash (wash the car before Claying some choose to wash after claying to get off any residue, but the Paint Cleaner step should take care of that)
Ulitmate Paint Cleaner (after washing and claying)
Ultimate Paint Protection (a sealant which you can layer - 24 hours between layers - Three layers seem to be the sweet spot)

Once you have your three coats you can keep it looking sharp with a weekly wash and use Ultimate Gloss Enhancer QD after drying...

To keep the wheels and tires looking sharp - I would use the ultimate wheel cleaner and ultimate tire protectant gel

Seriously thier whole line of products are great!!

Same goes for Poorboy's

I would go with

Polish with Carnuba
EX (again three layers - EX is a sealant with Carnuba - UPP is a straight on sealant)

Then you can use Poorboys' QD+ after washing to keep up the shine
Bold and Bright for the tires and after washing your wheels give them a coat of Polish with Carnuba and EX to keep them shiny shiny too...

Couple either one of those product lines with a Porter Cable and the Meg's pads and you can do a full detail every 4 months and keep it up in between with washing and QD ing...
