Procedure for good paint?

Ok im getting ready to do my spring detail on my 06 scion tc. Its azure pearl (light blue mettallic) and the paint is in great shape. I bought the car brand new, didnt let the dealer detail it and have always taken great car with washing and the general care of the paint. Under direct sunlight and even halogens there just is nearly no swirls. My general detail has just been a good wash with meguairs or turtle wax ice soap then the meguiars clay kit and then some eagle one nanowax, always using foam pads and microfibers. After discovering this site im ready to step away form the otc realm. So what would you all recommend for a general paint cleaner and wax? The car imo doesnt need a polish as theres no swirls or what not, i do have one very small scratch on my spoiler from a shhingle hitting it after a recent storm, can i just spot polish this spot? Im thinking for my procedure is:



Wash 1z perls soap

Clay

Wash

1z mp

1z glanz



Im going to be doing this car by hand as i dont need paint correction, so im thinking of the CCS euro hand polish pads from autogeek and then buff with microfibers. Any opinions would help a lot, i have searched many posts and 1z products seem to rate well amongst everyone on the forum. Do you all think i even need the mp? Im thinking it would help to make sure the paint is super clean or should i go with a chemical non abrasive cleaner?

The MP is so close to functionally nonabrasive that I'd use it. You will need something more aggressive for the one scratch (perhaps their Paint Polish).
 
Thnaks for the response! Ok so i will order there PP as well and i might need to use a terry towel for this area since it gives more bite from what ive read. As for applying the mp any suggesstions? The CCS euro hand polish pads come with a red, orange and white pads. Im thinking of using the white pad to apply the mp to the whole car and ill try the orange pad on my light scratch because it has light cutting action and then the red to apply the glanz. Again thanks for the help!

I'm not familiar with those pads, so I really can't say. But the MP is pretty much foolproof, just work it until it's almost dry (same for the Paint Polish). You can't really overwork them as they just turn into cleaner-wax.



The orange pad might leave a tiny bit of micromarring, if so go over the area with the Paint Polish and a polishing pad (potential problem if you only have one of each).
 
Ok ill make sure to get two sets of the hand pads. If the orange pad with pp leaves some micro marring then ill go over it with the white pad and the mp.

Do you have any suggestions on technique for applying this by hand? Like circular or back and forth or maybe both and how long to work it?



These are the pads im looking at CCS Euro Foam Hand Polish Applicators - Hand polish, hand detail, foam applicators, CCS foam pads, polishing pad im open to suggestions on the pads, im going to try and order all my stuff by Saturday. Also is it that you think the marring will occur if i apply mp with an orange pad or the pp on the orange pad? Im confused there, im trying to go the least aggressive route since the cars paint is in good shape as of now so thats why im thinking a white pad with mp for the whole car and ill try a white pad on the scratch 1st with pp, then step to orange if i need more bite. And now im thinking of going collinite for my lsp after reading some of your post. Theres so much inof on this site its hard to choose products..lol.
 
Zq8sdime- Heh heh, no kidding there are a lot of product suggestions here :D My suggestion isn't the only good way to go, but I *am* utterly confident that you'll do OK with it. I recently got a PM from somebody who just tried that combo with very pleasing results and I don't think you'll be the exception to the rule. Just remember that doing stuff by hand means your goal should be "better" as opposed to "nearly perfect".



There's no reason to use one specific movement when polishing with the 1Z stuff with the possible exception of their Extra/Ultra Polish (which you might oughta use in straight lines, not that *I* ever do). I suggest you just go in circular/elliptical motions to ensure uniform overlap and coverage. As the product breaks down any directional micromarring oughta just get polished away anyhow, it always does for me, at least by the time I finish polish with the MP.



Be sure to use the PP on any significant marring, you'd be wasting your time trying to fix it with the MP due to its mildness.



I've never used those pads, or an others with the dimples (well, not by hand). But I suspect they'll work just fine. The limits of the PP and MP are a matter of the abrasives being sorta mild, which will probably be the controlling factor.



If you go this route, please post back regarding your results, whatever they are (I'm betting you'll be satisfied but I want to know if you're not).
 
Will do, im going to place my order tonight and let you know how it goes. I think i will be happy as im not trying to correct my paint but more else clean it up for a good coat of wax, and try and fix that one small scratch on my spoiler its like 1/2" and cannot be felt with my finger nail so i think i will be able to fix it by hand. Im still researching the collinite some before i order the glanz wax.
