Problems with AIO ??

I spent the past days polishing my black car with Menzerna Intensive polish followed

by FP II. It polished fairly well. I started to apply Klasse AIO today and it looks like

crap. Questions:

1. I'm assuming I can use my DA to apply it ?? When I do, it is more difficult to get

off, and I can see what looks like milky smears where the buffer was ??

2. When I use a foam pad by hand, it looks somewhat better and comes off easier,

but I could swear I am seeing some fine scratches.

3. I'm getting no pop at all. Heck the polished finish looked better.

What am I doing wrong ?? I had similar problems using Zaino in the past, same smeary

distorted look. And on Black you can see everything. The only products that seemed to

looked good on the car were Zymol and Meg #21 as LSPs, but I don't understand when

I try all these high end products, I get crappy results. Any thoughts ?

I have a bottle of the Klasse High Gloss sealant that I was going to apply after the

AIO, but this whole project is turning into a nightmare. It shouldn't be this hard :wall

Thanks,

Mike

did you try an ISO wipedown after polishing to remove oils? Are you getting your PC pads clean? You might also be using too much product-less is better.

I agree that it sounds like you are using too much AIO.

How much are you using, and how are you applying/working it in?

mpmiller37- Perhaps the AIO is getting worked too long. I can't use it by Cyclo because it flashes off too fast and I imagine that working it by PC for too long would do the same thing. Also, yeah, people generally tend to use too much product and it kinda sounds like you might be doing that (but I doubt your doing *both* of those things wrong at the same time so :nixweiss ). Another thought- most people dampen the AIO application media with some water, but you don't want to overdo that.

Not sure why it wouldn't be working by hand, it's so close to nonabrasive that any marring almost has to be coming from the application media or some contamination. Well, unless your paint is *super* soft, in which case I dunno if I'd be all that determined to use the Klasse twins.

I guess it'd be more of my Autopian Heresy to say that maybe you oughta just stick with the Meg's #21 and/or Zymol....I hate to see somebody knocking themselves out to use a (new) product, especially when they already have a regimen that's worked for them.

If you used Intensive Polish and Finish Polish, I would have gone to my last step wax or sealant. Adding Klasse after those two to me seems redundant

Sounds like you are using too much.

Try using it with a finishing pad with the speed on 4-5 and cut way back on how much you are using. I think then you will find it very easy to use.

Absolutely. AIO will dry up quick and that's where the problem is. Not enough lubricants for machine use

How about AIO on surface and AIO/Water spray onto the panel and then start.

The replies that stated: "Its goof proof", and "Its the process, not the product"

were very informative.

So far I have:

- used way too much

- can't be worked to long, dries out quickly

- try some water, but don't over do it

And I appreciate these responses, but those responses imply that using this product is

a pain in the #@@. So if I use a little too much, or work it a little too long (heck its

also suppose to be a polish) why should I concern myself with these things. I know many

love the product, but I like something simple to use. Go on easy, come off easy, even

if I use a bit too much. I saw some other threads about AIO where others have stated

that it was pain and the results were less than impressive, so I'm certainly not alone.

I tried some of the High Gloss sealant to see if it would improve the look, but it was

basically the same. So I don't think this is going to work for my particular finish.

Also, I agree that I should have gone right to LSP and could have skipped this step

after using the Menzerna polishes.

Thanks ...

Don't feel bad. Even with all the good products out there, its still a learning process. We learn from our mistakes, next time you will have a little more experience under your belt. If anybody tells you the first time they picked up a bottle of polish and became an instant expert there lying to you. I really see no need to switch products at this point, the Menzerna polishes are very good, I would simply put Klasse aside for now and add a nice sealant or wax to compliment the 2 Menzernas and your good to go

> Switch to Werkstatt, Prime and Acrylic Jett are easier to use than Klasse and look

> better anyway.

Scottwax,

I've read many posts where you recommend the Werkstatt products so I'll give them a

try. I put a coat of Meg #21 sealant on. Its super easy to use and comes off easy, even

if you use too much, but I'm not sure about its durability. My Black car really needs

some "pop" though, I'm wondering if a coat of carnuba will give it extra shine over the

sealant.

Thanks ...

Solid black or metallic black? You may prefer using Prime and topping with #21 if it is a solid black color, Prime and AJ if it is metallic black.

A carnauba would give you more depth (generally speaking) than a sealant so topping would probably give you the look you want. Another option would be Poorboy's Sealant w/Carnauba, which has more of a carnauba look than a sealant.

Have *YOU* ever used *any* of Menzerna's polishes??

The AIO is something I've been using now for about a year and a half, and keep in mind that is the extent of my serious experience with using these types of products, but I've probably done everything wrong when it comes to AIO, and it's never given me anything but great results. I use either OC or OP before the AIO, and always use a blue or white edge pad with the AIO.

My process right now is to get the panel covered with AIO on very low speed (and I KNOW I use waaaay too much, but it works great) then hit it at speed 5 with the PC but only passing over the same spot twice and very quickly. My thoughts here are that I've done all the polishing I wanted to do with the OP (great stuff by the way) and I'm using the AIO as kind of the final cleaner before any LSP.

I understand that you might think the comment of this being "goof proof" might not be very complete, but if a moron like me can make it work, I'd say you might have bad product in the bottle. I had to give up my KSG because I just could not deal with the difficulty in keeping the application so thin I just couldn't see it, or else I'd spend hours removing the KSG from putting it on too thick. I don't have this problem with AIO.

When it's gone, I am going to try something else...maybe the new Optimum poliseal since I've had such luck with the other Optimum products. Optimum, Duragloss, and Collinite will soon be the only brands I will need on my shelf.

By the way, I don't have a black vehicle, so my results may be easier to achieve .

The car is solid black. I have trouble getting the look i want, because I once took a claybar too it and applied mega pressure (though it was heavily lubricated). It left marring and a lot of scratches on the paint. The Menzerna Intensive took out most of the damage, but there are still scratches that you can't feel with your nail, that are not coming out after multiple passes at speed 6 with a PC. The paint also has always had an orange peel issue, so I'm wondering if that is why I'm always having problems trying to get a "black glass" finish. I could go with a heavier polish than Menzerna IP, maybe #83, but I'm not sure if that has more cutting power. Not sure if I want to try and cut deeper into the finish as this Hyundai paint job does not seem to be great. I like Black, but if its not perfect then I'm not satisfied, so maybe my expectations for a 4 year old daily driver are too high. I think I'll take a look at the Prime.
