Problem with Paint on Hood

Well the problem I am having has been ongoing for a while now. Please look at the pics below

When I detail the car the problem goes away but will slowly creap back after a month or so. It's like something is living in the paint. The pics taken above are at its worst. I took the car through a touchless car wash (first one in many years) and after completely drying the above it what I got.

Background on the car... The car was in an accident a while back and the hood and drivers quarter panel were replaced and painted. The hood no longer has its under lining that protects it from heat and I don't know if that is an issue. The problem doesn't happen anywhere else on the car just the hood which is one of the reasons I am tossing around the repainting idea. The funny thing is if you look at the pics closely you may notice that there is a section on the front of the hood that is fine. I had a bra on the car a long time ago for an entire summer and it seems that section doesn't have the issue. If I can fix this problem with products I would like to go that route.

Just to mention as well I have purchased a rotary buffer which I have had 0 time on but am planning to get some practise in the next little while. I also have my trusty 7424.

Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks

hard to see what exactly it is, kind of looks like water spots. the only thing that i see that stands out from what ur saying is the missing hood liner. it seems that without something protecting the hood from heating up too much, it could really mess up the paint. thing is u said u can clean it up by washing it, which doesnt seem like something u could do to burned or scorched paint if thats the case. the fact it keeps coming back could be a result of the missing lining. ive never seen anything like it but it does look worse around the center where the bulk of the heat is generated. jus my opinion, wait for some1 else to give there imput cause this was just a guess

in addition to my last post i have another comment. it mite not be the paint burned or scorched. without the liner the hood probably heats up so much that if theres water on the surface it evaporates on it leaving that crap behind. mite be the problem

The problem doesn't go away just by washing. The only way that I can temporarily get rid of the problem is by applying a coat of wax or polish with my PC.

Just thinking about the liner now.... If it was a problem with the heat why is it not happening at the very front of the hood (pic 3). The fact that there is such a completely smooth line up front that crosses the hood adds the the mystery.

It just bothers me that I'll put in the effort, get the car looking wonderful and the first sign of a problem will be the hood. The rest of the car just shines for quite a long time. Its always the hood that needs treatment.

Thanks for the input guys.

did you wax or seal before the paint was fully cured? The hood liner removal may be a plausible reason for more water spotting. Maybe the line in front is where the engine bay stops, ie radiator and up area where its not as hot. Is your area acid rain prone?

Here's what I think.

The spots are definitely water spots. You can see the individual spots, plus you can easily see the lines in between where water runs off when there are too many beads on the hood. They merge together and run down the hood. Anyone can watch this in action during a rainstorm.

It seems to me that those spots were from washing a car though, not from a rainstorm. Rainwater does leave spots, but I wouldn't expect rainwater to leave permanent damage like that.

When you detail the car they go away. That's probably because you cover up the spots with a sealant and/or wax, which is sufficient to diminish the spots enough to not be readily visible. Then after a while, your sealant/wax wears down, and the spots become visible again.

I would try claying the hood and using a polish like SSR2.5 on a light-cut pad. I'd also try AIO.

hes right, looks like the heat would stop coming up right there by the radiator. could be a bunch of things but i think the missing liner is deffinitly something that could cause the problems

to me, it also looks like waterspots. and from the pictures, it looks like it's the area over the engine, possibly from the missing hood liner.

have you tried to polish them out with anything stronger than the MPPC?

The difference between the two areas is from the bra that gave some protection to the leading edge and the rest has been left to slow death from UV damage. You can *try* a good paint cleaner to remove the spotting and may need to step up to compounding.

UV could be a possibility. I had the bra on for almost one complete season one year. I wonder if that could be it.

What steps could I take with a 7424 to get this out? I have a rotary as stated above but don't feel comfortable in using it yet.
