problem applying 303

I just tried to apply some 303 to my dash this morn and noticed that is held quite a shine. I tried buffing it with a dry cloth and it took the shine down in some spots but not much at all. My bmw has alot of black plastic with a textured grain to it same goes for the vinyl on the door panels. I am applying it with a white wax applicator from Griots

I didn't buff it off right away nor did I clean the dash and door panels before applying. I did wipe down them with a MF though.

I tried wiping a spot down with a damp cloth and it started to look better but then when the dampness evaporated the dash had a chalky look to it as if there was no protectant at all.

Am I just applying too much?

How do I get the nice flat finish everyone is talking about?

I take a damp MF towel and wipe down my dash and doors to clean any surface crud before application of 303. After letting the dash dry completely I spray an applicator pad/towel/rag with 303 and wipe on the dash, rubber, vinyl, leather, etc. I usually don't even buff unless the application looks uneven. There is not much shine to begin with but it does tone down a little after drying.

It makes black surfaces a little glossy and darker but other colors barely even show it. Give it a day and see how it looks or reapply if you are totally unhappy with it.

Before applying 303, I wipe down the dash with a MF towel sprayed with Griot's Interior Cleaner. I apply the 303 with a terry towel and like OutlawTitan, I've never had to buff it because it's too shiny.

I'd cut back on the amount your using and see what happens

Sounds like you might be using too much - I have a matte black finish on my Passat dash and never had that problem with 303.

Not really but I haven't really tried it on anything else as all of the trim on the inside of the car is this textured surface. It is like the grain on leather or made to look similar.

I tried an application on the dash again after wiping it down with a wet rag and it looks much better. i didn't appy any more 303 to the pad, just used what still on it.

I think as mentioned above I might of been using too much, or I think allowing it set up too long if I do apply too much.

To cut down on the shine, I apply it with a damp foam pad and buff quickly with a dry Mf towel...........
