Price are going up!

I was just over at Premiumautocare and was taken aback by the current price for 4* UPP. I have two bottles of that wonderful product at home. I think I paid less than $14 for the first bottle (autopia discount at pakshak) and I got the second bottle for free (4* giveaway). However, at $19.95 it may be a hard pill for some non-professionals to swallow.

I know this is a minor complaint for us enthusiasts, but I suspect the weak dollar is going to hurt more and more over the course of time.

And, btw, I think 4* is so good that it is more than worth $19.95, but that is a another issue.

Probably a combination of the weakeming dollar and rise in cost of raw materials. Not sure if they are having to reformulate because of VOC's.......

Yeesh. It hurts! Raw material prices have risen an insane amount! UPP is worth it I guess, but I'm starting to turn to other sources. 20 dollars for sealants! I can market that as a wonder wax :D

AIO + UPP has been my "go to" combo ever since I read about it here. The 16 oz. bottle of UPP was going for $14.95 for the longest time until only recently. Fortunately, UPP is formulated thin enough that a little really does go a long way - doesn't take much to do the typical midsize 4-door sedan. Still, one of the online dealers had a great X-mas sale last year. With the special discount that he offered, the cost came down to just $11.21 per 16 oz. bottle. Certainly couldn't say no to that, so I picked up 6 bottles. Should last me for a while.

Interestingly enough, while the 4Star Ultimate Gloss Enhancer works well, I've found that Wolfgang's Detail Spritz and 1Z's Lackfinish both leave the UPP-coated paint finish slicker than UGE. Hmmm......

$20 is not too much to ask for UPP IMO. I just bought some WG sealant which was $20 too.

It says it leaves a super-slick finish, so I'm curious as to how that compares to the super-slickness that UPP leaves.

its not enough money considering you can make more than 20 bucks off a couple quarter sized dropps per panel.

If all the raw materials and manufacturing of UPP are done here, I doubt the strength or weakness of the dollar has anything to do with it. Could be any petroleum based ingredients are what is affecting the cost. Maybe additional tweaking of the formula can also affect price.

Still, since like seikoguy pointed out, since it takes so little product to cover a car, the actual cost per application still isn't going to cost that much.

I agree, the $20 is really not that expensive. I have a bottle that I purchased sometime in early 03 and I still have about 3/4 of a bottle. I only use it my own cars because of the one hour cure time (in Memphis anyway) so it will probably last me forever. There is no telling how many cars one can do with a bottle of UPP.

You may want to try Mothers new FX SynWax. I used it on my wifes car that Ive been using UPP on. It looked identical on the dark metallic blue MINI Cooper. The best part is that you dont have to wait. You can use it one panel at a time. It has less depth right after application, but looks just as deep the next day. Beautiful stuff. Its only 12 bucks at Advance Auto Parts.

Out of all the suggestions, IMHO i think its just the company wanting to increase profits while at the same time being able to afford more marketing. That's the route that most companies are going. Of course this is just my opinion, I have nothing against 4* especially since Im about to order UPP! :)

I have seeen this wax on light silver metallic and it looked beautiful!!

I think it had quite a bit of cleaners in it. Did you find it to be a true "cleaner wax?" I haven't used it, only read the bottle and seen the final results.

Curious of how this new SynWax's durability will hold up against the main OTC competition like NXT, Eagle One Nano Wax, Etc.

It does have cleaners but it doesnt seem to be very much. I had a few dark water stains and I had to really work them over to remove them. It cleans about the same as most non-cleaner liquid waxes like LS. The stuff is too easy, very slick and looks beautiful. If it holds up for more than 4 weeks, Ill be sold. Well see how long it lasts. A lot of the other syns that Ive used look and feel good but dont last as long as they should for polys.

Over here NXT is AU$40 which is ~US$30.

So you're right to complain about prices going up, but I've had to deal with premium prices all along.
