hello,

I picked up some presta fine cut creme at my local ppg store and was wondering if anyone has used presta products?

There are a number of people here who have used/still use presta.

If you do a search on this keyword I'm sure you'll find conversation on it.

I'm still using the Ultra Buffing System which consists of ultra cutting creme, ultra cutting creme light, ultra polish and swirl remover. LOng working time and works better than 105/205 combo under hot and humid weather IME.....

Give it a try and you may not regret it.

Not sure about better, but, yes, Presta is good. Long working time and easy to clean off between jambs.

Thanks all....just got my 7424 today with a yellow and orange pad so i cant wait to try it

If I'm not mistaken, only rotaries applies..

Might not get the job done with a 7424.

Did an Autopian search on PRESTA (located in OH) in the titles only and got the first hit dated Jul 2010.

I know that they have been around a long time (5-10 years maybe longer).

1. Are they ancient history and/or are they worth pursuing?

They were originally recommended to me by a very well known detailer a few years ago. Went to my local auto paint dealer yesterday to order some Meguiar's stuff and there they were on the shelf.

2. Anyone use them recently?

Comments appreciated.

You know, corn starch, toothpaste and mineral oil will "work" but there are better products now. Get my drift?

Presta is, indeed, designed for rotary polishers. I have used the Strata- Ultra Light Cutting Cream (Pat No. 133432) with a PC-DA, but it doesn't have the power/"bit" that a rotary does to make the abrasives work properly. It's OK, but it takes a while with a DA to work with the abrasives. I do believe these are non-diminishing abrasives, meaning they do not break down into smaller abrasive grit as it is worked with. I also have the Chroma- 1500 Polish (Part No. 1333532) that was to be used BEFORE the light cutting cream for defect removal. There's nothing on the bottle directions that say "SHAKE WELL",  but I would do so prior to using the polish.  It does not like the direct hot sun above 95°F or cold below 45°F, so indoors in a garage is best. It was also designed for paint/body shop use, as there are not fillers, waxes, silicones (per the bottle label) that can interfere with spray booth paint application (think fish-eyes).

This was THE polish about 6 years ago,(which is why I bought these polishes)  but obviously, several car-care chemical companies have developed other DA-friendly and efficient compounds and polishes.

This has since led to the debate about which is better: rotaries or DA. I think most will concur that both have their places and that old-time professional detailers still prefer rotaries for speed and overall performance. I cannot match a skilled and experienced rotary operator coupled with the right machine/pad/compound with a DA, though some will take exception to that with the new Rupes 21MM throw DA (which is on every Autopian detailer's wish-list, professional or hobbyist). But I digress....

I hope you bought this a good price and have a rotary polisher and Presta pads available to you. Otherwise, I think you'll be disappointed by the results.

Like I stated above. Thanks for the responses good or bad. I still don't know some things about detailing techniques/skills/products and I'm still learning after 12+ years on here.

Presta has been around since 1953 according to Google.

No, I did not buy any Presta (I own a DA) but it looks like they are old-school products that have been supplanted by newer technology in the polish lineup. I was just taken aback to see Presta in a retail store. I too can't match the skill-set of a rotary user but with the right polish, pad, DA know-how I can compete.

I have read some great things about Presta Ultra series, wich seems to adress Meguiars users since it's a "two step punch".

I've had and used the Presta products + pads for sometime.  I'll be honest, I haven't touched any of them for a couple of years.  IMO, their products, at least the ones I own, are rotary-only.  And I've had excellent results with them.

Do they offer anything that can be used with a DA machine?
